Cellphone and Smart Watch Concerns Arise in CXC Exams

1

Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) has uncovered irregularities in the 2023 exam session, with significant concerns surrounding the usage of cellphones and smartwatches.

Dr. Nicole Manning, CXC’s Director of Operations, revealed these issues during the 2023 exam results announcement.

In CSEC exams, 19 irregularities were found, including cellphone use and plagiarism, while CAPE exams reported 17 irregularities.

Although small in number, these incidents raise alarms.

Manning emphasized the need to address cellphone usage, particularly as candidates even had devices on their person during exams.

The Council plans to revise regulations due to the rise of smartwatches, aiming to maintain fairness and integrity.(Observer)
