How Family Support Fuels Success in the Medical Field

In a world where dreams can often feel out of reach, one family’s journey through the halls of medicine shines like a beacon of hope.
In July 2017, a significant milestone was reached when Dr. Tazaar Benjamin graduated from medical school in Cuba, illuminating a path filled with promise and opportunity.
As I stand with pride today, we celebrate not only her achievements but also those of her sister, Dr. Brianna T.D. Benjamin and her cousin, Dr. Tyreek J. DeSilva, who join her in the esteemed profession as they graduate alongside the Class of 2025.
This moment represents more than personal triumphs; it is a heartfelt celebration of family, resilience, and the vibrant community that surrounds them.
Their journey has been far from solitary.
It is a resounding testament to the unwavering love and support from their parents, Ms. Volda Abbott, Mr. Brian Benjamin, Ms. Lyris Abbott and Mr. Kevin DeSilva, who have formed a sturdy foundation upon which these young dreamers could build their futures.
“Watching our children flourish after all the sacrifices we’ve made is a reminder of what love and determination can achieve,” shared Ms. Volda Abbott.
As a community advocate and a firsthand witness to the sacrifices made by both parents and children, I can attest to the incredible dedication it takes to reach these milestones.
As we reflect on their accomplishments, let us celebrate not just their personal milestones but also the shared dreams and sacrifices of their family and community
. This is a testament to the dedication and perseverance found in the heart of Ottos New Town in the St. John’s Rural South constituency. Let this serve as a beacon of hope.
Let us reinforce that our rural community is filled with gems, and no matter your humble beginnings, your dreams are possible.
