The recent celebration of China’s 75th National Day showcased the flourishing relationship between the People’s Republic of China and Antigua and Barbuda. Hosted by the Chinese Embassy, the event highlighted the unwavering support both nations have for each other. Prime Minister Gaston Browne reaffirmed Antigua and Barbuda’s commitment to the ‘One China’ policy, emphasizing the principle that Taiwan is an integral part of China, similar to how Barbuda is part of Antigua.

Browne stated that supporting this policy aligns with the stance of most countries worldwide, citing China’s non-aggressive approach towards Taiwan. Foreign Affairs Minister E.P. Chet Greene praised China’s significant economic growth and its contributions to Antigua and Barbuda’s development. He acknowledged the mutual benefits of their bilateral cooperation and celebrated China’s cultural heritage and global contributions.

Governor General Sir Rodney Williams echoed the importance of the One China Policy, noting that it has deepened ties and yielded tangible benefits for both nations. The evening included musical performances, Chinese cuisine, and gifts, culminating in a vibrant celebration.

  1. Isn’t it any wonder that the ABLP are wanting to move closer and closer to a one-party state, with China 🇨🇳 now having ever closer ties with Gaston ‘Autocrat’ Brown. Poor Antigua!

I for one was hoping that the Chinese involvement in Antigua & Barbuda was purely for business and infrastructural links only.

However, Brixtonian could be wrong 😉

When it comes to Gaston Browne you see everything in a bad light. Even the relationship with China that goes back since VC Bird and Antigua and Barbuda has maintained throughout all political parties in power. The Chinese do not mingle in our political affairs.
When the UPP was in power they gave even more generous grants and concessional loans. To name a view: Sir Vivian Richard Stadium, The Street Lights, King George the V Grounds Recreational Centre. The Grace Farm Gutter. Financing of the New Airport, Financing of the WPP, (Which didn’t work and is not their fault). And many more projects too numerous to mention. SLBMC should not be forgotten.
But Brix you will remain negative against our PM no matter how good things are. Do you think an Autocrat would receive a Humanitarian Award from a US University? And if he had absolute power you would be silenced long time. So enjoy your Free Speech. But I guess you will always overdue it.

  3. @ Less We Forget [You], it seems like my freedom of speech ah burn you bac%s&de!

For someone who keeps telling others to ignore me, you sure as hell enjoy following – and then responding – to my forthright comments.

However, I don’t mind in the slightest.

When Antigua & Barbuda has a leader that is transparent, really cares about Antiguans and the cost of living, then I’ll ease up. Simple!

IN YOUR DARK HEART 🖤, YOU KNOW WE DESERVE BETTER …
