Catherine Chiddick Named Grand Officer of the Most Illustrious Order of Princely Heritage

On this year’s Independence Day celebration in Antigua and Barbuda, Catherine Chiddick was honored with the title of Grand Officer of the Most Illustrious Order of Princely Heritage (G.O.H.) for her outstanding contributions to education and community development.

With over 50 years dedicated to nurturing young minds, Chiddick’s impact on the education sector is profound.

Her journey began in the Grays Green/Green Bay community, where she provided private learning experiences, skillfully engaging students and fostering their growth during critical developmental stages.

Her early emphasis on discipline and decorum helped students understand the educational and social structures that would shape their lives.

Chiddick’s formal teaching career commenced in 1971 at Green Bay Primary School, followed by positions at Genelette Primary and Miss Martin School. In 1981, she took a monumental step by establishing her own institution, Grays Crescent Primary School.

Initially teaching nearly all grade levels, she led her students to remarkable success in common entrance examinations and national assessments.

Throughout her more than 40 years as principal, the school consistently achieved passing rates between 90 to 100 percent.

Her dedication extended beyond academics; she spent long hours preparing lessons and managing after-school programs at no cost to parents.

Chiddick’s reputation for excellence in education is firmly established in the Grays Green/Green Bay community, where she has shaped exceptional students who contribute meaningfully to their communities and to Antigua and Barbuda.

As she received her award, Chiddick expressed gratitude for the recognition and reaffirmed her commitment to education, encouraging others to strive for excellence in service to their communities.

This honor on Independence Day serves as a testament to her lifelong dedication to the development of future generations.
