A wooden house in Cassada Gardens was gutted by fire on Friday morning, but its sole occupant escaped unharmed.
The blaze broke out around 6:00 a.m. on Hawkins Drive. Fire crews from St John’s arrived to find the single-storey structure already engulfed, with the roof collapsed.
Despite efforts to douse the flames, the 11x12ft home and its contents were destroyed. The occupant said he awoke to smoke and flames before fleeing to safety.
The uninsured property had no electricity connection, officials confirmed. A nearby vehicle also sustained minor damage.

Police and fire officials are investigating the cause.
