Carnival Tuesday Parade Route Shifted for Safety and Speed
The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has approved a new route for the Carnival Tuesday parade, citing safety and efficiency as key reasons for the change.
Ambassador Lionel Hurst, speaking at Thursday’s post-Cabinet media briefing, said the revised route will follow wider roads, allowing for smoother traffic flow and reducing congestion during one of the most anticipated events of the annual festivities.
“The usual route includes narrow streets such as Market Street, which can hinder movement and increase the risk of overcrowding,” Hurst explained. “In contrast, sections of the new route, such as Old Parham Road, are significantly wider and better suited to accommodate growing numbers of participants and onlookers.”
The decision to alter the route was influenced by the success of similar changes during the popular T-shirt mas, which also uses broader roadways. Officials believe the shift will help eliminate long delays between parade segments and create a more enjoyable experience for all involved.
The Minister of Creative Industries, who made the recommendation to Cabinet, reportedly based the proposal on both logistical assessments and public feedback from previous years.
The government expects an increase in participation this Carnival season, driven in part by rising disposable incomes and a growing interest in the event. Organisers are being urged to plan accordingly to ensure a smooth rollout of the revised route.
The new route details are expected to be released to the public in the coming weeks.

What was unsafe about the previous route. The Festival Comission and parade committee need to enforce a timely start yo the proceedings.
I prefer the old route
Honestly, the old route had too many choke points. This might be better.

Calypso dead, Soca Monarch garbage, Panorama might be the only real life of carnival, but after Panorama night all the sweetness of pan, the involvement of pan and even the fan base support dissappear, especially on the streets for the rest of carnival.
Here comes the know it all, but this what happens when they go abroad to jump up in other carnival, talking about safety issues on a route we’ve been accustom to for years, as a matter of fact Monday and Tuesday was two beautiful and spectacular, colorful days, now they claimed the costume are breaking apart so let’s make it Tuesday only thing.
What’s next? You may as well move the entire parade to Sir Viv stadium and let them go around in a circle, cause no matter what route you take it’s gonna be a safety issue. It’s carnival baby.
Last year route was the best! Last time they changed the route it was a mess!
