Carlson Matthew Jr says he escaped because he was being beaten by police officers

Twenty-four-year-old Carlson Matthew Jnr will be spending 3 months behind bars after he admitted to escaping from the St. John’s Police Station today.

On January 5, Matthew was wanted for breaking and entering last week and was subsequently found and apprehended.

The Fort Road man however, pushed his way through two men who were being taken from a shared cell and fled through the Station’s Church Street gate on January 8.

He was recaptured a day later and slapped with a few more charges.

He is now charged for allegedly breaking into the dwelling house of female resident of Villa on January 1 2021, with the intent to commit a felony.

He is also accused of robbing a male resident of Gambles on Hilda Davis Drive of $75.00, and attempting to break into a dwelling house on Bishopsgate Street. Both incidents reportedly occurred on December 24, 2020.

He was initially wanted for allegedly breaking into a dwelling house on upper St.Georges Street on December 30th 2020, and stealing a mobile handset, money and jewelry- of which he pleaded not guilty and is set to stand trial on March 24.

As it relates to escaping custody Matthew alleged that he was being beaten by the officers to admit to a robbery.
“I decide that I’m not staying there and taking bad treatment,” he told the court.

  3. He nah lie. Them even bang me for nothing. The funny things is he had nothing to do with the case and when he started beating me all the office doors started slamming DOOR shut. I asked the for his name and badge number and he slapped me again and asked if me think he retarded. When the officers who arrested me returned i told them what he did and when they enquired all the officers in CID LIED AND SAID HE NEVER HIT ME!! THEY ALL CORRUPT!!!! NO JOKE AND AFTER ALL THE BEATING THEY LET ME GO TALKING BOUGHT CIVIL MATTER AFTER THEM DONE BANG ME!!!

    If people start targeting their family members it’s another story here in ANU. These officers are illiterate and can’t do real police work
