  1. This is not good. So the guests just getting drunk and having fun? No staff no management. Life is sweet. Maybe I should just walk into the hotel. Nobody to check if I’m a guest ot not. Ha ha ha Merry Xmas

  2. Haha. “#1 Tourism Destination”. This must brings nothing but shame to these tourism members. This should be a shout to the Gaston Browne to speak to these hotel management.

    • ABWU headed by GERIATRIC DAVID MASSIAH!!!!

That union always a sellout workers. Keep up the protest guys!

  3. Police would not touch those tourists. We the locals would more likely to be arrested if we do as the tourists did.

  4. I totally agree with them!! Royalton and tourism as a whole suffers when this type of crap happens. Can u imagine a whole hotel full to capacity and no WORKERS? DISGRACE!!

  5. The guests are taking full advantage of the all-inclusive package that they paid for! In all seriousness, this is not a good look for the hotel (the Royalton Negril in Jamaica had a strike in October too) and I doubt any of those visitors would return after experiencing the lack of services and other interruptions. Would you? Of course not. You would spend your hard-earned money elsewhere.

  6. What you want the tourist to do, sit around for this hotel to sort out its mess?

Yes indeed, the party must go on, especially when you take time off and spend the ridiculous amount of money these hotels charges. So off these rooms are upwards $1500us a night.

    Get your money’s worth folks.

  7. Team members appear tohave major grievances that have not been addressed by ‘fly in’ Hispanic management or HR.
Is Union involved? What about Labour Commissioner? as they would likely make forward movement.

  8. The Royalton problem is far worst then it appears on the surface. They continue to bring in foreign workers and contractors from Hispanic countries and treat the local employers like slavers. A few months ago they brought in a Mexican Landscape contractor and replaced the Antiguan landscaper that was doing an excellent job. After that the entire landscaping at both properties deteriorated. Sometimes the lawns were not cut for weeks. They use to harass the locals landscape contractor for the simplest thing . Now these Spanish workers gang up doing absolutely nothing , just smoking weed and interfering with the guest. They are allowed to do as they like, and no one say anything to them. So they nasty. Then they displaced the local cleaning company with a Spanish company as well. I wrote it in this very media , that I the kitchens are so dirty and greasy that workers were fall. The floor and the sealing needed degreasing urgently. Someone once said don’t know how people eat from that place and don’t get sick. These imported Spanish contracts workers flood the staff canteen every day, sitting and waiting before lunch is even ready and eat off all the lunch. The hotel employees have to go to five islands to buy lunch. They brought in a Mexican contractor to do renovation work. Special security services workers do not eat in the canteen. They walk with their own food or go five islands. In other hotels the taxi drivers pay cost price for lunch. At Royalton the taxi drivers order their food from outside. Anyhow with all the unsanitary conditions they are not doing the locals a disservice, your health are being protected by the master.
During construction the DCA did not do its job , unless Antigua do not have any construction codes. So from the time both hotels were open its problems after problems. Everyday a sewage truck enters to pump smelly sewage or grease. The run electrical, water lines.
Did the Health officials inspected and added the mold situation. We saw a video where a guest complained about mold in her room. Even in the pools has algae. Today a staff boldly said that they are not only striking for themselves but also to protect the guests. Calling on the health officials to step up. If we don’t have laws to allow over health officials to enter these properties and shut down these kitchens/ restaurants, put them in place.
Then we had a problem with Bed bugs recently. Did our health officials stepped in and ensure that those mattresses were taken to Cooks and burnt. Madam chief health lady is it only the local vendors you regulate.
I am not forgetting the crime situation, whereby a few of the Mexicans employees were found dead dead murdered in the pool- Cartel style.
The next thing that is a known fact for years these people have been dumping sewage water into the lagoon. So is a barrage of issues that need to be addressed.
Madam heath lady the guest were serving drinks yesterday do they have food handling certificate?
If the Royalton do not make immediate changes they are going to go bankrupt without a few years.

  9. The Royalton is unlikely to go into Bankruptcy. If the situation becomes untenable they will sell the property, payout their limited partner investors and or buy another property elsewhere.
This is just another day in the “economic power house” run by an incompetent bunch of corrupt politicians where the economic benefits goes to non-Antiguans, the politically connected fronting for the politicians. Nothing new here.

  10. @FRANKLY SPEAKING,
Remember I spoke about about getting food poison but this one ABLP blogger would attempt to place me in a false light. That place almost killed me. Nearly everyone was Spanish, Spanish entertainment and all the decent positions, they are Spanish.

You think I am saying the ABLP is incompetent because I want to say it? It is sadly because of my experience. Why on earth would they not have inspectors and proper laws pertaining to kitchen sanitation, requiring a decent percentage of food to be bought from local farmers, demanding a high percentage of supervisory and managerial position to be filled by locals, believe and support what locals are saying and doing,

I saw the news yesterday that ABLP was proud of these Royalton jobs, they should be ashamed. I do not think they have not one strategist who advise them what to say and when. Why on earth you would include Royalton in a budget speech when nearly no Antiguans work at Royalton Chic? People getting food poisoned while tipping about $19,000.00. And again, that idiot ABLP blogger can go on the property and ask employees. And stop being jealous.

  11. They paid for their booking and the experience. Whether someone is there to facilitate it or not THEY WILL GET THEIR MONEY’S WORTH especially considering not every tourist partook but not every tourist want to go thru refunding processes either. I’m not saying it’s a good look on our end but those tourists weren’t wrong. If I been thier country and spent my hard earned cash to experience this bvllsh¡t I myself would want a shot of Label [and i don’t even drink] so in a sense I get their perspective. The blame should be Management if we’re being realistic! Now my question is, [because I don’t know] is Gaston Browne the manager of Royalton? If so he should be ashamed of himself… if not, I really think Minister FERNADEZZZZZZZ needs to take his work more seriously. And yes the Prime Minister needs to pull him, the Minister of TOURISM up on numerous issues in relation.
