The Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) has expanded its medical team with the appointment of Dr Christopher Sulowski, a Canadian-trained specialist in paediatric emergency medicine.
Dr Sulowski, who has practised at McMaster Children’s Hospital and taught as an Associate Professor of Paediatrics and Health Sciences at McMaster University, is relocating to Antigua to join the hospital’s Department of Paediatrics. A graduate of the University of Toronto, he brings extensive experience in treating children in emergency settings.
He said he looked forward to contributing his expertise to enhance the hospital’s mission of providing high-quality, compassionate care for children in Antigua and Barbuda. Hospital officials described his arrival as an important step in strengthening the country’s capacity to deliver specialised paediatric emergency services.
The announcement comes as the hospital prepares for its annual multidisciplinary cancer symposium, set for 4 October at the Sandals Grande Resort & Spa. The one-day event will bring together regional and international experts in oncology, surgery and nutrition to share advances in cancer treatment.

Organisers report strong early interest and are encouraging the public to register in advance.

Good addition, but one doctor won’t fix the system. We also need more nurses and better equipment.
Welcome Dr. Sulowski! Our kids deserve the very best, and this is a move in the right direction.
