Calvin Ayre Foundation and Generation Next Football Club Announce Sixth Annual Player Identification Combine

There is no doubt that football is a loved and preferred sport in Antigua and Barbuda. Hundreds of supporters flock to stadiums across the island to watch footballers vie for glory, showcasing their skills and determination in matches.

For this reason, the Calvin Ayre Foundation (CAF) continues to support the sport by hosting the CAF Player Identification Combine in partnership with the Generation Next Football Club. The sixth annual CAF Player Identification Combine is scheduled to take place from February 21st to 24th, 2025, at the St. Anthony’s Secondary School.

This year’s combine continues the successful partnership established in 2018, aiming to provide young footballers with opportunities for educational scholarships and professional contracts. The event will host coaches and scouts from high schools, colleges, universities, and professional clubs across the USA and the UK.

“We are thrilled to elevate this year’s combine by expanding our reach and providing more opportunities for our talented youth,” said Richard “Ricky” Santos, President of GNFC. “Our collaboration with CAF has been instrumental in creating pathways for young athletes to achieve their academic and professional football aspirations.”

The weekend-long event will feature matches tailored to different age categories, ranging from ages 13 to 21.

Notably, this year’s identification combine will include participants from neighbouring Caribbean islands, reflecting GNFC’s commitment to regional development. In previous combines, players from Montserrat secured partial scholarships to Hartpury College in the UK, exemplifying the tangible benefits of this initiative.

The continued support from CAF, with a sponsorship exceeding EC$240,000 for 2025, underscores the foundation’s dedication to youth development through sports and education. This funding facilitates the CAF Advance Football Academy, covering coaches’ and players’ uniforms, training equipment, SAT preparation classes, and the organization of the annual combine.

“Our partnership with GNFC reflects our commitment to empowering young athletes,” said Jamilla Kirwan, Media Relations Specialist for the Ayre Group and Manager of the Calvin Ayre Foundation. “We are proud to support initiatives that open doors for youth to excel both academically and athletically.”
