Request for Support and Opportunities for Young Adults Struggling to Balance Education and Employment from the Prime Minister.
Dear Antigua Newsroom,
I am writing to bring to your attention the growing challenge faced by many young adults in our country who are striving to improve their lives through education while simultaneously trying to gain meaningful employment.
Currently, I hold an associate’s degree and I’m pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree, with several years of experience within my area of studies.
Despite my educational qualifications and commitment to furthering my studies, I have encountered significant difficulties finding an employer willing to give me a chance.
The harsh reality is that many workplaces expect completed degrees or prior experience, leaving young adults like myself with a difficult choice: either put education on hold to work or sacrifice financial independence to continue studying.
Living on my own with the pressure of managing all my expenses has taken a serious toll on my mental health.
It is a heavy burden for any young adult to bear, especially when the hope of uplifting oneself through education feels increasingly out of reach without the opportunity to gain relevant work experience.
I urge The Prime Minister office to consider policies or programs that specifically support young adults in this position—those who are eager to contribute to the workforce while still completing their education.
Initiatives such as internships, apprenticeships, flexible work-study arrangements, or incentives for employers to hire young learners would make a transformative difference.
I appreciate your attention to this critical issue and hope for your leadership in creating more inclusive opportunities that empower young adults to succeed academically and professionally without having to compromise one for the other.
Sincerely,
Anonymous

Are you suggesting someone should employ you, give you time to pursue higher education and still pay you a weekly wage or monthly salary, you sound like Alice in Wonderland
Consulting services in your down time? Community service or NGO? Ohh! I forgot everyone wants to wear and drive the latest and attend all the social events. Next!
What a narrow-minded statement. Just because an issue doesn’t affect you personally, or you lack the ambition to improve in that area, doesn’t mean it’s irrelevant. It’s a case of “who feels it, knows it.” I fully agree with this letter, as it highlights a very pertinent issue facing the youth in this country. As a young person who has experienced this myself, I can completely understand how the author feels.
Welcome to adulthood my friend.
Maybe you should try online school at nights at the UWI Global Campus. They offer payment plans that make it easy on your pocket. It’s a serious commitment and involves sacrifice, but the rewards are great.
To Anonymous,
We live in a world of ‘996’ Many are doing “10107”. Its affecting their mental health. but they are ploughing on; for that what success is about in today’s world and they have a PM to write too.
You placed yourself in the position that you claim others are experiencing. I guess you have no family willing to help or guide you.
Interesting you live in your own pursuing high education and have no money; which seemingly have led to your mental health issues.
Like many others have done. Take a break from pursuing your bachelors of science. Pursue a job with passion.
The Prime Minister has other things to do. You do not have any value in his life, unless he chooses you a political tool as he did with the gangs.
Any success derived from your public letter will only be because you and others have been made a political publicly stunt; for that’s the political reality and is the only way he operates.
How is it Alice in Wonderland when many people are currently in this exact same arrangement with their employers? 😂
To Piky Head
Well why dont you show the young adults where these opportunities are instead of running your mouth and trying to throw shade? I guess you cant and just want to run your mouth anonymously
Welcome to reality anonymous. I too was in this same position and like you I was frustrated then I got the best advise. Set aside the education for now, focus on the work experience and gain the necessary skills annd gain a foot hold in the field of it and save your money. Then you take the further steps in continuing your educational journey
