Cabinet to Advertise Deputy Posts in Port and Parks Authorities

The government has announced plans to advertise two new deputy positions—one at the Antigua and Barbuda Port Authority and another at the National Parks Authority—as part of a wider effort to improve transparency and strengthen oversight across the public service.

During Friday’s post-Cabinet press briefing, Government Spokesperson Maurice Merchant said the decision aligns with the Cabinet’s ongoing programme to rotate officials and redevelop key administrative structures.

“The Cabinet has pinpointed two departments that it will be focusing on opening applications for a deputy position,” Merchant explained. “There is the need for a deputy at the Antigua Port Authority, and another deputy position that the Cabinet says should be advertised and opened is at the National Parks Authority.”

The move follows Cabinet’s directive to rotate long-serving officers across various ministries and statutory bodies—a measure intended to promote accountability and professional growth within the civil service.

The positions are expected to be opened to qualified applicants in the coming weeks, with official notices outlining requirements, application procedures, and deadlines to be published by the relevant authorities.

  1. The Parks Commissioner should have been removed a long, long time ago. Parks is a cesspool of corruption and no audit has been tabled in Parliament, as required by law for about 15 years. And the PM gives lip service to cleaning up. What a joke. The bigger joke is the UPP. All of the statutory corporations are supposed to file their audited financial statements in Parliament annually by law. None are compliant. But the persons we have elected don’t follow the law and are not held accountable.
