Relations between Antigua and Barbuda and the United States remain “at an all-time high,” according to Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant, who described the partnership as strong, cooperative, and mutually beneficial.

Speaking at Thursday’s post-Cabinet press briefing, Merchant said the government values its relationship with the United States, which he described as being consistent with Antigua and Barbuda’s diplomatic approach to all nations.

He noted that while both countries have expressed areas of concern, the overall relationship continues to strengthen under the Trump administration.

Merchant explained that Antigua and Barbuda has raised concerns about preserving the *Caribbean as a zone of peace, while the U.S. has communicated its own concerns about aspects of *Citizenship by Investment (CIP) programs operated by some regional states.

Despite these differences, Merchant stressed that “there are no requests that are out of the ordinary,” underscoring the continued spirit of cooperation between the two governments.

He also highlighted ongoing collaboration in the energy sector, noting that a U.S.-based company is providing liquefied natural gas (LNG) and renewable energy services to Antigua and Barbuda.

Merchant said this represents the United States’ growing interest in expanding investment opportunities across the twin-island nation.

“The American government and its foreign secretary are interested in getting other U.S. businesses to establish operations in Antigua and Barbuda,” Merchant said. “The LNG operations in Antigua are a step towards that.”

The Cabinet, he added, welcomes these developments as part of its broader effort to deepen international partnerships that align with national development goals.
