The Cabinet welcomed Japan’s WOTA Group to present its innovative wastewater treatment technology, using small plants for household and commercial applications. These systems effectively treat greywater, transforming it into potable water for various uses, including irrigation.
Officials from the Department of the Environment joined WOTA in discussing three experimental plants operating in Antigua since 2024. The plants have exceeded expectations, producing water comparable in quality to conventional suppliers. To demonstrate this, WOTA showcased bottled samples, which Cabinet members found indistinguishable in clarity, smell, and taste.
With weekly quality tests and analysis in Japan, WOTA ensures high standards. Despite the cost, Cabinet explored integrating the technology into National Housing projects in Antigua and Barbuda, recognizing its potential for sustainable water management in the region.

Japan has been a leader in sustainable technology, and incorporating their innovations could significantly improve the efficiency and environmental impact of these developments. However, I think it’s important to ensure that these technologies are adaptable to local conditions. Will the technology be tailored to meet the specific needs of our communities, or will it be a one-size-fits-all solution? Additionally, there needs to be a clear plan for training local personnel to maintain and operate these systems effectively.
I would like to see more transparency in how the government plans to finance and implement these technologies. Are there any concerns about the cost or potential challenges in adapting the technology to our local infrastructure? While it’s an innovative move, we need to ensure that it’s both practical and cost-effective for the country in the long run.
As the spending increases, the water supply diminishes. To date, we have not even the slightest idea of how much have been expended but they keep sourcing contractors and installing new RO Plants. Is this, too, under the umbrella of ‘siphoning funds through construction’?
Wr could bring in Japan, Korea, Italy, Russia, China or America there is absolutely nothing that can be done using waste water in Antigua. Except there is a central sewage system waste water will just run straight to the sea. This government knows that however their supporters are just too gullible to look beyond what they hear from ALP operatives. If there was an immediate cinsequence for politicians lying and intentionally misleading the gullible there would be no labour party.
