Government Reviewing Proposal for Long and Exemplary Public Service Award
The Cabinet is reviewing a proposal from Governor-General Sir Rodney Williams to establish a Long and Exemplary Public Service Award to recognize public officers who have demonstrated faithful and meritorious service to Antigua and Barbuda.
Director General of Communications Maurice Merchant said the proposed award, which has been approved by His Majesty the King, would honour individuals with at least 25 years of unblemished service whose performance has been exemplary.
He explained that the initiative envisions three levels of recognition — gold, silver, and certificate of merit — with nominations to be made by the Prime Minister, Ministers of Government, and the Cabinet.
Merchant said the proposal is currently being reviewed by relevant authorities, who are examining the framework, eligibility criteria, and administrative processes outlined by the Office of the Governor-General. A report will be submitted to Cabinet once consultations are complete.
“The Cabinet acknowledged that the proposal for the introduction of the Long and Exemplary Public Service Award is under review,” Merchant said, adding that the measure will provide a formal way to honour those who have served the government and people of Antigua and Barbuda with distinction.
