Antigua Collaborates with Trinidad Team for Cataract Removal

2

CABINET NOTES – The Cabinet invited a Medical Team from Trinidad, whose function has been to remove cataracts from the eyes of primarily elderly citizens, whose eyesight has been impaired by the growth of these scales over the pupil of the eye.

The team has trained several nurses and other professionals in preparing patients, participating in the operations, and in the post-operative care of the patients.

The team reported that Antigua and Barbuda’s Cataract Surgical Rate is in the top three in our Caribbean. (Suriname and Barbados occupy 1st and 2nd position, respectively).

The Rate is determined by 4,000 cataract operations per one million population.

In Antigua and Barbuda’s case, that would be 400 surgeries per one hundred thousand population.

A video of both nurses and patients expressing great satisfaction was shared with the Cabinet Members.

It was agreed that the video would be aired on National Television.

  1. From personal experience, I advise everyone who has had cataract surgery to obtain a copy of your surgical and aftercare record from the hospital NOW.

If, god forbid, complications occur, and you seek assistance / redress, and you do not have these records in your hands, you may find such records no longer exist at the hospital or elsewhere, and you have no proof of who diagnosed you, the surgeons name and the treatment plan.
It is then you who suffers for life, no-one else.

  2. And ofcourse this good news has only one comment and the usual suspects like Brixtonian have nothing to say
And what about a follow up report from this website. How many patients have they operated on. And were there a lack in anesthesia? I mean you have to wonder why are they doing everything to bring down their own country
