Director-General of Communications Maurice Merchant said the measure will apply to officers in the Treasury Department, Customs and Excise Division, and Inland Revenue Department, where prolonged tenure in sensitive roles has been linked to risks of weak accountability.

He explained that the plan will be developed with technical assistance from the IMF-affiliated Caribbean Regional Technical Assistance Centre (CAR-TAC), which specializes in public financial management and economic governance.

“The government recognizes the importance of maintaining the integrity of financial operations,” Merchant said, adding that the policy will ensure “regular rotation of officers in high-risk positions” as part of broader reforms to improve transparency and performance.

Under the plan, the Financial Secretary, in consultation with the Minister of Finance, will oversee the transfer and reassignment of officers within these departments to reinforce fiscal discipline and public confidence in government systems .

Merchant said the initiative aligns with international best practices in public sector governance and signals Antigua and Barbuda’s continued commitment to financial accountability and reform.

  1. It is my opinion that once Labour Party is in office regardless of what you hear from the administration nothing will change. It is a disease among their supporters, they cannot help themselves. Labour is rotten to the core, I’m not happy to say this but it’s the truth however much it hurts

  2. Smokes and Mirrors!!! Who was the lead conspirator in vehicle gate. The PMs alleged business partner. The purported contractor of his home and campaign financiers, road builder, importer of heavy duty equipment, Ambassador, chairman of SJDC. Start there and work your way down.

  3. Follow the leader. It’s amazing how alot of foreign yes man are at times place in strategic locations but we are expecting no corruption policy. Sin cannot correct sin.

  4. So when will the FS be rotated? Who will oversee the rotation of the FS?
And who will oversee the rotation of who rotates the FS and when and how often will they be rotated?

How often and when will government ministers be rotated to avoid the very sane pitfall?

Who will rotate the finance minister to avoid the same issues?

  5. @ Smh
The people who are going to do the rotating needs to be rotated much more than who they plan to rotate, that’s how backwards things are in GANGSTERS PARADISE. Only they should divvy up the loot
