Yhap's place of business was raided recently

Businessman Raymond Yhap has been charged with possession of ammunition.

Following his charge, he was granted bail after appearing before Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh today.

His bail is in the sum of $3,000, with a cash deposit of $1,000 and one surety. He is to report at the St. John’s Police Station three days each week.

Yhap returns to court for a trial on October 28.

According to reports, police raided several of Yhap’s businesses, including two of his supermarkets on Lower All Saints Road, last week. According to reports, officers seized a number of items, including money, a firearm and ammunition.

As a licensed firearm holder, he is reportedly permitted to have only 60 bullets in his possession at any one time.

However, officers reportedly found over 140 rounds of ammunition at one business place, and Yhap was charged accordingly.

  1. “Bail in the amount of $3000 with a cash deposit of $1000”.

I wonder if it was a poor person on the streets the bail would have been a lot more.

This so called “justice system” is a real joke.

  2. So smoke and mirrors to mask real issues… what this has to do with Nigel murder?. Big raid and charge for a few extra rounds? Please… The young man murder can’t go so…

    • Same thing i here saying to myself. Big big raid and them dey come up empty handed with one tupit amo charge for which he is out on bail in the sum of $1000 (stripclub “Tip” money) oh please Mr. commissioner come better than that sir.

  3. The man is a license gun owner. So why the limits on ammunition. He has several businesses. So if the excess ammunition were found at another building. It would have been okay?

    • The law is the law and the law is clear okay. NO MORE THAN 60 ROUNDS IS ALLOWED AT ANY GIVEN TIME. REGARDLESS IF YOU ARE A BUSINESSMAN OR NOT, THE LAW MUST BE RESPECTED AND ADHERED TO AT ALL TIMES, ESPECIALLY BY INFLUENTIAL FIGURES IN OUR SOCIETY.

  4. What a cupit law. A licensed gun owner can only have 60 rounds? Antigua laws dem need some serious updating. Police can’t protect everyone. Now govt don’t want we protecting ourselves. What a bunch a bullshit.

    • Y should he have more. Den we turn out likka da land of da free an home of da brave where so chupid kid who get vex wid he teacher go home get ge daddy gun wid all he bullet an shoot up da school? Ah dat ah what u want

      • You really arguing that point? All it tek a one bullet. Never inna fu me youth days me wudda tek up a gun and go school go shoot up anybody. You have a a frig up mentality to think along dem lines. Dat gun have to be secure at all times and even more important you educate your kid when dem mentally ready about gun.

The old stupid law makes about as much sense as you license your car ebry year but you only allowed to have only 10 gallon a gas at a time. If dem want know how much bullet me hab, me nuh hab no problem wid dat. Just like a car is not a toy so is a gun. In fact, watch how many people get dead or injured by car cuz people dem a drive like rasses. More people get injured or killed by vehicles dem than by gun.

Nuh bring up US and compare it to ah we. Dem a differnt beast. Study bout us and fu we country.

  5. Most interesting! There clearly is no deterrent for illegal possession of ammo in Antigua! A business man with several businesses in Antigua bailed in the sum of $3000 with a cash component of $1000 for illegal possession of ammunition. I have to shake my head. The more things change, the more they remain the same… or get even worse. Not comfortable with that!!!

  6. So where is his photo? You media ppl are hypocritical because young black men and women who are arrested for anything even stealing bread you plaster their photos all over but this man is a businessman and his photo is not posted. Smh As black people we have a long way to go. Smh

  7. That Law of the amount of ammunition a license gun owner could possess is archaic. It does not make any sense whatsoever.Having more than 60 rounds of ammo is an offence in Law.This whole matter is laughable.

    • Lovell aspiring to be PM “does not make any sense whatsoever”. Lovell has LOST MORE elections than he has won. That “matter is laughable” and pitiful.

  8. Yes, show the photo. Is he Antigua born, or is he from somewhere else? Must be a whole lot more to this story. Show the photo!
