Effective Monday, a new shift system will be in place for public bus drivers, which will see them working on a three-day schedule.
The Bus Association blames sluggish business for the reduced schedule for drivers.
President Keithroy Black said the work schedule was request by the bus operators themselves.

Don’t ask me why but after reading this article my mind flashed black to an Era which forced the creation of a New Normal. At one time in our cultural history, steel bands ruled the roost during Carnival, especially during street parades, J’ouverts, Las’ Laps etc. So much fun then. Young, old and the in-between reveled to the pulsating, hypnotic sound of steel band, until….. The Great Strike. Encouraged by their newly formed Association, steel bands unanimously undertook to boycott all Carnival celebrations of that year leaving the masses shell shocked, disappointed beyond belief, in total despair. But then, the Antiguan resilient spirit came to the fore. There were slogans aplenty. ‘The show must go on! “” No one monkey can stop de show! ” Dem carn stop we Canaval”. And so, as a result, that Carnival gave birth to a new normal. Hi-fi sets were placed at strategic corners of the city while trucks of every description fitted with hi-fi sets and or live bands took control of the streets. And so it has been to this day! The old culture of jumping to the sound of steel bands for j’ouvert and last lap, Tshirt Mas and Carnival parades has vanished, perhaps forever. It was all about adaptation and creativity then as it is now. Commuters who depend on public transportation may be forced to adapt and become creative to fit in to the new normal of the three-day bus schedule now being imposed. Are the old slogans of the past relevant to today’s challenges? Maybe, Maybe not. I do feel though that the displaced commuters will devise new strategies. Rise to the occasion!
What about those drivers who oppose this system because instead of gaining they’ll be loosing? Why not ask for reduced fuel prices instead of trying to force you political agendas on everyone?
🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️ what does reduce fuel price gone stop…they gone still be going bus station how many days a week…n not getting much folks to feel they bus.wasting time..seating there for hrs n not getting much ppl …other bus drivers seating there not getting anyone…which is what they are trying to avoid…giving each bus driver a fair chance to make some money…or are u so concern about paying less for gas..u think that’s the solution the bus driver needs..smh
So public bus a run 3 days a week what caused this?
I would guess alot of bus drivers aren’t making much money or none on days..cause alot of folks are home…or working schedule days themselves…so that way it gives them all a fair chance
Folks, this schedule has been tried and tested it’s not new (especially) to the bus drivers at the West Bus Station. The drivers know what’s best for them.
