The marquee event of Antigua and Barbuda’s Independence celebrations in the United States will this year honor and pay tribute to legendary musical icons, the Burning Flames.
The family band has been a staple at the Antigua and Barbuda Independence Gala organized by the Consulate General for the past few years, and its members will this year take their rightful place in the spotlight not only as performers but as honored guests.
The Independence Gala will take place on Saturday 15th November at the renowned Glen Island Harbour Club, bringing together Antiguans and Barbudans for a night to celebrate the country’s remarkable achievements in its 44th year of political independence. The theme is Red and Gold, aptly selected to symbolize the very name of the band and the fiery tunes it has produced over the years.
Antigua and Barbuda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Walton Webson, under whose responsibility the Consulate falls, stated that the honor and tributes the band has been receiving from the Government and people of Antigua and Barbuda are truly deserving.

“Our Independence Gala, in this milestone year for our revered cultural ambassadors, gives the members of the diaspora the perfect opportunity to show the band their own love and appreciation,” Ambassador Webson stated.
“While so many Antiguans and Barbudans have made our country proud, in the galaxy of stars of our highest achievers, the Burning Flames continue to shine bright,” he continued.
Tickets are moving fast for what is expected to be the Consulate’s biggest Independence Gala ever. Tickets for the highly anticipated gala affair are being sold in three tiers, starting with a limited amount going at US$200 up until Oct 15. The second tier of tickets goes on sale for US$225 from October 16 until Nov 9. And from Nov 10 up until the night of the event, tickets will be selling for US$250.
The Consulate General and members of the organizing committee are encouraging members of the diaspora to come out in their numbers to not only celebrate 44 years of Independence, but 40 years of the musical legacy that has given every Antiguan and Barbudan a lifetime of joy, pride and memories.
