Building materials have been delivered to St Philip’s South to begin refurbishment of the first home under the government’s Home Assistance Programme for the Indigent (HAPI) in the constituency.

Kiz Johnson, caretaker for the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) in St Philip’s South, said the materials were received as work prepares to get underway on the property in St Philip’s Village.

The initiative is being supported by the Ministry of Social and Urban Transformation and forms part of ongoing efforts to improve housing conditions for vulnerable residents.

Rawdon Turner joined community members in gathering at the site, where they met with homeowner Sean Limerick, known in the community as “Tony,” ahead of the start of construction.

Residents, including young men from the village, assisted with offloading the materials, reflecting what Johnson described as strong community spirit. Builders drawn from within the constituency are also expected to carry out the refurbishment works.

Construction is scheduled to begin shortly, with officials expressing optimism that the completed project will provide renewed comfort and stability for the homeowner.

The HAPI programme, administered by the Ministry of Social and Urban Transformation, is designed to assist indigent and vulnerable citizens through home repairs and rehabilitation across Antigua and Barbuda.
