Prime Minister Gaston Browne says he feels “fully vindicated” after a US federal court dismissed subpoenas issued against him, his family, senior officials, and private companies in Antigua and Barbuda.
The United States District Court for the Southern District of New York ruled in favour of the Antiguan government, quashing all subpoenas requested by Yulia Guryeva-Motlokhov, daughter of a sanctioned Russian national linked to the luxury yacht Alfa Nero.
In a written decision, Judge Jesse M. Furman found that Guryeva-Motlokhov “failed to meet the statutory requirements for relief” under US law. The court also vacated its prior authorisation and ordered the destruction of any materials obtained.
Prime Minister Browne welcomed the ruling, saying it confirmed the government’s position that the subpoenas were “never justified” and were part of a baseless attempt to harass officials.
“We will always defend the integrity of our institutions and the good name of those who serve them,” he said.

Does he really believe that? He is not vindicated in any way. The judge squashed the subpoena only based on the fact that there is no pending litigation Antiuga as they are waiting from a ruling from the judge on current litigation. It is a technicality. The lawyers also allege that their client has received death threats via e-mail over this. Please Gaston don’t make this more than it is or someone will have to make all the documents public.

However, Prime Minister Browne mustn’t forget that Antiguans main bone of contention and bugbear in regards to his direct involvement with the Alpha Nero fiasco; is that whatever the past and future financial outcome will be, the Public purse/treasury should NOT be used.
Gaston Browne must bare the costs of HIS mistake and not the hardworking Antiguans.

I never believe that story of missing money from Alfa Nero. Politics and conspiracy are two notorious demons. Once someone say something bad about a political party in Antigua whether red or blue, party followers who cannot think for themselves just take on the propaganda and run with it. This is also a lesson for the government. Make it a habit to disclosed anything you do to avoid such embarrassment in the future

@Brixtonian – This is an Antigua & Barbuda matter. He didn’t take himself to court. Who took him and caused this thing to happen, needs to pay.
Mr. Prime Minister, stop fooling your backward supporters, you are not Vindicated of anything whatsoeve., The Court squashing of the Subpoenas doesn’t prove you are guilty or innocent, the evidence sort by the subpoenas, has now become inadmissible, which means they can’t be used as evidence in Court.
You still has the substantial case to answer to the Court for, you are not Vindicated from anything and if this Russian Lady even decided to discontinue this case, you are still not being vindicated in by the Court in anyway..
The Court is well aware of the consequences of exposing your wealth and the far reaching repercussions this may have, so you are cleared of having your “Ill-gotten Gains” exposed in the Public Domain, that’s all that has happened.
You can fool some of the people all of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.
If any of you believing that there is some vindication here really don’t know the Russians. This thing will continue until we pay every cent back for this yatch. So those rejoicing really have nothing to rejoice for.

Antigua & Barbuda have other more engaging problems in regards to lack of housing; poor road infrastructure; continuous power cuts; and ongoing water shortages.
Browne took his eye off the ball with Antiguan citizens by getting involved and pursuing with this very expensive super yacht nonsense.

A dose of your own medicine Gaston, you were not vindicated of anything. There was no charges brought against you and the others. It was just a discovery phase, to see what additional information and evidence could be gathered legally.
The Russians are not even close to finishing with you. Those who are rejoicing need to pay attention, to the hundreds of thousands of US dollars which are been spent to defend you and others personally from the public purse.
You are at war with these Russians and this is only one of the many battles of this war.
