Prime Minister Gaston Browne says he plans to sue U.S.-based law firm Boies, Schiller & Flexner for exemplary damages, alleging the firm made defamatory statements linking him to the Alfa Nero superyacht matter.

Browne told state media that the firm failed to respond to a pre-action letter sent in late November by his attorneys, Rika Bird & Associates, and instead issued what he described as additional defamatory remarks, prompting his decision to take legal action.

He also said proceedings will be filed against former United Progressive Party leader Harold Lovell, whom he accuses of repeating the allegations publicly.

Rika Bird & Associates said statements made by attorney Martin DeLuca, who represents a claimant connected to the matter, were highly defamatory and damaged the prime minister’s reputation. The remarks were reported by international and local media.

The Alfa Nero has been the subject of legal and political dispute following its seizure and sale by the government earlier this year.

  1. According to him, he called bluff the first time but they made additional defamatory statements so he’s replacing it with a second one. He is very likely to go after Lovell because there’s a grudge right there but please, while you’re at it, don’t forget to go after those who put your name in the public, boldly claiming that US $674000 cash , through you, found it’s way on American soil to purchase a waterfront property in Coral Gables, Florida. We don’t like them tarnishing your reputation so let’s clear your name and let them pay.

  2. This is a threat to local Antiguans who may want to talk about this alpha Nero boat thing that they keep quiet for the snap election that is soon to be called, an ALP proxy political party is to be launch under a new name to splinter the votes in areas especially where Lovell is running since DNA is dead and buried, now nobody in the USA scare a Gaston, he is not even known, but he wants to use the media in Antigua to create the impression he wield a big stick in America, maybe he is doing this so they don’t seize his Florida property.

  3. Here’s some important and pertinent questions:

Will Gaston Browne use the hardworking taxpayers money for HIS pursuant of this court case, or will he use his own money?

If – as expected – he uses taxpayers money and miraculously wins the case. Will he return the money to the treasury?

On the other hand if he loses, how will the treasury/taxpayers be compensated?

As per usual, more questions than answers…
