Browne Plans Legal Action Over Alfa Nero Allegations, Denounces ‘Fishing Expedition’ Tactics
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has announced plans to pursue legal action against Russian national Yulia Guryeva-Motlokhov and others involved in litigation concerning the Alfa Nero yacht, accusing them of conducting a baseless “fishing expedition” against him and undermining Antigua and Barbuda’s national interests.
Speaking at length during Browne and Browne, the Prime Minister said that foreign litigants had relied on fabricated information allegedly supplied by members of the political opposition to build their case, describing the move as a “betrayal” of the country for political gain.
“I fully intend to sue Yulia Guryeva-Motlokhov and others involved,” Browne said. “They relied on misinformation deliberately peddled by elements within the opposition who are trying to destroy not just me, but the reputation of Antigua and Barbuda.”
According to Browne, allegations that he and others misappropriated funds from the Alfa Nero sale are entirely without merit. He said the opposition had fed false claims to foreign litigants, including exaggerated reports of his personal wealth, supposed ownership of oil companies, and fabricated allegations of illicit transactions — all without presenting any supporting evidence.
“They have alleged I am worth US$700 million, that I own homes across North America and Europe, and that I engage in all manner of corruption,” Browne said. “Yet, when it comes to evidence, they have produced nothing. Absolutely nothing.”
The Prime Minister criticised the strategy used by Guryeva-Motlokhov’s legal team, led by a former U.S. federal prosecutor, accusing them of seeking access to his personal and business financial records without having established any credible basis for their claims.
“They are not following the evidence. They are fishing — hoping to find something because they have nothing,” he said. “It is a disgrace that foreign actors, relying on fabricated opposition material, believe they can use Antigua and Barbuda’s judicial system as a playground for their ambitions.”
Browne warned that these actions were not without consequences, stating that orchestrating attacks on the country’s leadership risked serious reputational damage, potentially affecting Antigua and Barbuda’s investment climate, tourism sector, and diplomatic relationships.
He also challenged the opposition to reflect on the broader impact of their actions, accusing them of abandoning national loyalty in the pursuit of political power.
“At what point does ambition for office become treason against your own country?” Browne asked. “To collude with outsiders to attack Antigua and Barbuda is a line that no patriotic citizen should ever cross.”
Browne said he remained confident that the truth would ultimately prevail and vowed to defend both his personal reputation and that of the country through legal means if necessary.
“We will not allow fabricated lies to define our country’s future,” he said. “I will stand on the truth and fight to protect Antigua and Barbuda’s good name.”
The Alfa Nero case remains before the courts, with further hearings expected in the coming months.

Everyone knew this was always too good an opportunity for government officials not to try to line their own pockets. The PM and the others who have benefitted just thought they had covered their tracks well enough not to be caught. Maybe they have, we will see…
My mother said if you do not have anything good to say keep quiet…
Doth thou not complain too much?????????
The truth hurts and only time will tell. Corruption is Antigua and Barbuda government
Brownie is talking like a pitiful and desperate man. The Deposition is to gain the necessary evidence.
If there is nothing to see or uncover why worry. Blaming the Opposition is a Tired and worn out defence.
In all of PM Brownie pitiful sympathy campaign, he failed to mention that the Courts granted Guryeva-Motlokhov’s legal team the right to conduct the deposition.
Boyce Schiller won the first round un seeking discovery after moving for an order compelling an answer, designation, production, or inspection if financial transactions.
Both the The Federal Reserve and the The Financial Exchange will proceed with the production documents showing the money trail.
To the degree this matter affects the reputation of Antigua, it’s because the world will ask how can Antiguans elect such a person as their Prime Minister ?
What’s wrong with these people ?
The Headline “Browne plans to sue “Guryeva-Motlokhov’s legal team, led by a former U.S. federal prosecutor.
Suing Guryeva-Motlokhov” is unlikely to happen.
Unfortunately the people of Antigua can’t stop PM Brownie from talking, but they can stop him from squandering their taxes on his and his family’s personal defence.
Antiguans whose taxes are paying to defend PM Brownie knows little or nothing about his defence team. The gave no information on what are the cost to date or the running costs.
All they get are distractions and blaming if others.
What difference does it make that Guryeva-Motlokhov’s legal team is led by a former U.S. federal prosecutor?
No one is stopping him and his family from hiring a former U.S. Federal Prosecutor.
If and when the money trail is laid bare; Brownie and family will need a former US Prosecutor as their defence attorney.
Rather than the Opposition asking the PM to resign, which will not happen. The Opposition should be demanding he cover his and his families legal cost.
This is only the Discovery. There is a lawsuit filed in Russia. Lots of individuals will be deposed followed by lots of Motions before any trial.
Defenfing The Russian lawsuit legal cost is going to cost tens of USD millions. Where is that money coming from?
If the Opposition do not demand as well as get the people behind them to stop PM Brownie from using their tax dollars on his personal defence; Antigua and Barbuda will be bankrupt by this which is a personal matter.
I have been advised by astaphan and Ron saunders to make big threats about suing and get the Antiguan public scared and shut up because the American court is going hard on me and my family and I have a property in Miami.
Why are my Tax Dollars paying to defend this filthy rich man and his family?
We need a real opposition party who can demand he uses his own riches to defend himself and his family.
Instead of demanding he uses his own money to defend himself; The Leader of the UPP ask for Browne’s resignation.
Who is advising Jamale Pringle; as well as authoring these dead on arrival demands? Gaston not resigning. Stop it !
It serves no political purpose other than to illustrates Pringle advisor is s political amateur
Gaston Browne is s desperate man, and the opposition UPP party has not idea how to cease the moment.
Such noble deeds don’t cut in in Caribbean politics.
This is about the tax burden we are about to suffer for generations after Gaston and his family have slipped off to the EAU
I am just following the money transfer trails, and of the signature on the accounts recipient/s et, al.
It seems some serious shit is about to hit the fan. Wow! I surely need to get over this hump. Better I invest in some camels. This pig and Marijuana farming is not enough for me farmer Top Dawg!
to hoard accumulation. Only seven 💯 millions?!
I should’ve had more. Some one of those 🐖 🐷 🐽 🐖 is bound to squeal now the stone have been thrown into the pen.
Oh! For the the labor of self love. Please don’t beseech my good name or that of my succor.
ME A GO SUE YEEEEE. What a damn joke of the decade. I once loved a girl name SUE. Me never sue she. You are using threats to keep people mouths shut. That bull 🐂 chit is not going to work this time around.
That Alfa Nero story look like sesemi street to me. Something don’t make sense. To me, that’s a fishing expedition. It don’t add up. Anyway, he who alleges must prove. Let’s wait on the court findings. This look like a joke to me. During last election, there were billions of US dollars sitting in the belly of an Aircraft at VCBIA which was totally political gimic and now 10 million. Providing the court is not bias, the truth will come out but until then, I don’t believe. I don’t follow crowd. I have a mind of my own. I support no political party in this country. All of them are the same just a different colour.
Honestly speaking I do believe that fishing is taking place. That the information requested for has nothing to do with the Alfa Nero. However, if the world police allows these subpoenas , the fishing expedition might catch a really big fish.
PM not only the members of the UPP alone are relishing the opportunity to take over the leadership of this country. Your foreign minister is licking his lips, waiting on the opposition to become the political leader of ABLP and by extension Prime Minister. So watch your back.
I did not mind if the UPP political party, had find some legal channel to investigate and request this very information on the Subpoena. In fact I think all politicians , government and opposition, aspiring politicians and senior civil servants finances should be made public. As a country we need to stamp out corruption and I don’t care where the chip fall.
People in all offices need
to learn to livy off their salaries. They need to stop undermining the development of this country. All public officials need to stop using their offices for self enrichment.
We should start with the accountant general, the Financial secretary, the director of PWD , the opposition leader, several PS’s , lands officers and surveyors. The more I write the more I see the need for a complete forensic accounting investigation, in the entire government system/ accounting.
