Browne Calls for Unity and Reflection After By-Election Defeat

In a statement issued after the results, Browne said, “Today, we stand stronger than before, and we have not lost our spirit, our purpose, or our belief in a better future for our people.”

He described the campaign as part of a wider effort beyond a single election, stating, “This journey was never just about one election—it is about the fight for fairness, opportunity, and real change for every citizen. And that fight does not end here.”

Browne thanked supporters, volunteers and voters for their backing throughout the campaign. “Your energy, your hope, and your commitment mean more than words can express. You showed what unity and belief can do, and that foundation remains strong,” he said.

He added that the party would use the moment to regroup, noting, “We take this moment not as defeat, but as a reflection. We listen, we learn, and we grow stronger together as a family to serve YOU, the PEOPLE of Antigua and Barbuda.”

Ending on a forward-looking note, Browne said, “The truth is simple: The work continues,” adding that the UPP will “keep showing up,” “keep building,” and “keep fighting for a better Antigua and Barbuda.”

Full Statement from Alex Browne:

“Today, we stand stronger than before, and we have not lost our spirit, our purpose, or our belief in a better future for our people.

This journey was never just about one election—it is about the fight for fairness, opportunity, and real change for every citizen. And that fight does not end here.

To every supporter, volunteer, and voter who stood with us—thank you. Your energy, your hope, and your commitment mean more than words can express. You showed what unity and belief can do, and that foundation remains strong.

We take this moment not as defeat, but as a reflection. We listen, we learn, and we grow stronger together as a family to serve YOU, the PEOPLE of Antigua and Barbuda.

Because the truth is simple:

The work continues.

We will keep showing up.

We will keep building.

We will keep fighting for a better Antigua and Barbuda.

Stay engaged. Stay hopeful. Stay united.

The movement is alive—and this is only the beginning.”

  1. UNITY and REFLECTION ???

2 things Gisele don’t do! She not interested in either.

Goo lang see Alex. Them.say she prefer the son of George “HOUSE RENT” Wehner.

She thinks that you are LAZY!

  2. It’s a shame we are in a society where the majority do not think for themselves but rather be subjected to handouts or follow a party because a friend or family is part of it. I wish people would ask themselves, “Are they really better off? Am i getting sufficient running water? Can i afford groceries for my family each week? Am I getting good health care? These are the things that really matter, and people should weigh the pros and cons when approaching the ballot box… if the pros outweigh the cons, by all means do what you see fit.

  3. To those who are delusional: This election result should send a clear and unmistakable message to Jamal Pringle: it is time to step down as leader. He has not demonstrated the capacity to unify the party or to broaden its appeal to new voters—both of which are essential for electoral success. The UPP requires decisive, credible leadership, and someone with the experience and strength of Harold Lovell could better position the party for the future. If the UPP fails to act now, it risks heading into the next general election unprepared and facing a significant defeat.

  4. As much as I’m in shock and disbelief in this devastating loss for the UPP, I also congratulate Randy Baltimore and the ABLP on their by-election win in St Phillip’s North.

If I’m honest with myself, the UPP lost this way way back at the convention where they had an amazing opportunity to change the leadership and install the vibrant and no nonsense Richard Lewis.

It was a mistake then, and we’ve witnessed the repercussions by the devastating defeat yesterday.

However, it is a time to unite the country, and hope that the victorious ABLP supporters now hold their leader to account.

Gaston Browne has made promises, and it’s incumbent nowvon ALL his supporters that he makes good on all of them.

Again, ABLP congratulations on your win.

Mind you, if ABLP win the next General Election, I’ll have to consider selling up and moving elsewhere…

  5. Except that he got less votes than the last election, I don’t know why all the haters are acting as if it was not an uphill task to win in an area, where the cabal ALP never lost.
They are not independended minded as the people in St Mary’s South.

  6. Im sorry for whats gonna happen next year for the next upcoming election. Sad to say that, but only if UPP had some strong candidates running. Check the polls from last election it was neck to neck to how some of Alp candidates won by a few over Upp it wasnt such a big margin,so it was there and then after UPP should have really put in work after that. If this Labour Party wins again we are all salt and pepper to try season our future. Most of you Alp supporters are suffering and crying, yet you all still turn a blind eye. Can we be that dumb and blind to see???? Yall havent water how long….. but all of a sudden a bi election coming yall have water. We gonna wait till close to election for them to buy us out for votes. Gaston is one brilliant smart individual and you cant take that from him. He does good for the Country and he does some bad as well. Lets talk about pension, sickness claims, maternity, back pay, increased wages, not having water for weeks,an increased 100 dollar fee on licensing your car. Come on people like Gaston Browne them benefiting. What happen to us poor people we cant get something beneficial. Poor service up at MSJLC they aint got majority of equipments. All these taxes come out your money and yet still Gad damn it. So how our future gah look for the next 5 years exclude who done have gold spoon in them mouths already. I am not a UPP supporter but back then in their time robbery wasnt a thing, crime rate wasnt even high,so whats really going on for our Country. Anyways cant say i never warned yall. Yall havent feel anything yet.

  7. I am a firm believer in D.Gisele Isaac. Did not like the treatment meted out to her by the UPP MP’s and several of its executives members. Take for example during the convention you put little buy Baby face Anthony Smith to run against her as party chairman. That was where the downfall started. Anyhow my dear I think it is time to resign and move away from politics and just enjoy the rest of your life. Enjoy your beautiful, talented, educated loving family. Take some nice vacation and see thd world in is glorious splendor. Life is very very short here in planet earth madam. I know you had great dreams for an Antigua where everyone had equal opportunity. Where accountability especially in public office is exemplary. That is not what the people of Antigua is looking for. I also admire your writings , so you can try your had at writing a best seller. It must not be about politics because you need to rid your mind of this. With that said let me move on to the political leadership of the party.
I am absolutely convinced that neither Jamal Pringle or Harold Lovell are capable of leading the UPP political into a successful general election.
So it’s time for a new and young to emerge to take over the party. I don’t see any wishy washy. Talking about a young and articulate, educated young man or woman. This is an opportunity for a young bright Antiguan or Barbadian to step up to the plate. In fact in the entire slate of opposition leaders, including Harold the only person I would vote for is Barbudan Trevor walker.
