  1. It’s heartbreaking to see someone so young throw away their life like this. May this serve as a lesson to others.

  2. Canabis induced psychotic state or mood . How many people can we say that has this experience. Studies has shown that this population of persons that experiences this disorder is predisposed for Schizophrenia its a marker for the progression of Schizophrenia so it can be said that she was insane at the time when she did this heinous act and nothing has suggested that it was premeditated so just my little piece she has now been sentenced and will spend the mandated period of incarceration for smoking or abusing thc that has induced a psychotic episode that triggered her taking a life moving forward this should be a warning to that young vulnerable population that continues to abuse thc 15 grams and 4 trees that this path can certainly be detrimental or make this population answer to the law for their actions if they are found or experiences an induced psychotic disorder let’s just hope that our psychiatric services has the resources to continue to manage our young people when they present themselves for help at our institutions it’s not a pleasant sight.

  5. I am friends with the family of the woman who was murdered.
This news article is inaccurate at best.
There was a Facebook post from the deceased on the night she was attacked that clearly was her asking for help saying that someone was trying to break into her home.
The cab driver who took the murderer to the victim’s house knew something was wrong because she asked to be taken to this specific area, rather than her own home. She mean to rob the victim and was violent and made a choice to murder. This is not manslaughter. Your article goes on about voices making the murderer commit this crime, yet there’s no lead up info in this article to explain that she was even experiencing voices, you need to read your article before you post it!
Here’s the clunky part of the article that you didn’t bother to edit before posting:
“concerning behavioural episodes, including an incident where Jno-Baptiste stood staring at the sun for an extended period.

Further testimony revealed that during her mental evaluation, Jno-Baptiste told Dr. King those voices had commanded her to kill Finch”

Those voices? What voices? You never explain in the article.

  6. huh charged with 27 years???? Is that even a thing. She was sentenced to 27 years for the crime.
I would like to know what the mitigating and aggravating factors were.
So had it been murder she would have gotten 50 years?
No matter how many years though a family is left mourning

  7. What about Angela? 27 years for the murder of a woman who have already lived her entire life. What about the abduction and murder of a child who doesn’t even fully know her name? Since the Abduction and Murder of Chantel all other news are truly insignificant. We want answers on Chantel’s case! Don’t just lock a nation that was mourning in the dark. We want justice too

  8. How dare you compare cases, all of you who are being racist and making comparisons between cases… do you know when Jane was killed, how brutally she was killed and what a beautifully kind innocent and hardworking woman she was? How long her family and friends have been waiting to hear what kind of justice she will get? Get a grip. There’s no difference in skin color, just determination and passion from those who loved her.
Chantel’s case is still brand new. Horrifying and scary but brand new and they have a fair few pathways to navigate before releasing any new information. It’s frustrating that in general we receive little information from the police and that we can all feel disservices but the color of peoples skin and the hurt and anger that their close ones feel does not differ in any way so hold your uneducated tongues .

  9. The message I’m getting from this story is whites lives are more valuable hence harder penalty. Remember the accuse was not of sound mind when the crime was committed compared to another case where a black man was gundown and the accuse was given 14 years for the same charge

  10. White lives matters indeed. 27 years eh. I want to see how much poor chantel would get. Look at how many black people have been killed and no sentences yet. Manny James. Blood will cry out.

  11. My condolences to the family of the deceased but if the medical diagnosis were accurate, I do believe this sentence is unconstitutional, inhumane and violates international treaties/policies/agreements Antigua and Barbuda entered into.

I am also very upset with the inability of Antigua local attorneys not involving mental, social and behavioral health experts as expert witnesses in these kinds of cases.

If diagnosis is accurate, sentence should not be that long or, which is most appropriate, she should be within a mental health institution.

I can not feel justice was served for the deceased and my statement does not meant to diminish the heinous suffering the deceased, family and community experienced/experiencing from this horrible act.

We as society and politicians have failed the deceased and the defendant here. We do not have professional care for mental health, resources are not being used in these areas locally, and practically no experts exist locally. She did not act it seems intentionally or with knowledge or recklessly as she may not even know the risk or defect she had in terms of mental health and drug use.

Please let us do better, have mercy and love in our hearts, this will put passion in us to do all we can reasonably do to help people and communities. Really time to get great and loving leaders. I promise you that great leaders will not be richer in an office than they were out the office.

People open your eyes, I beg you and my statement is not being made about any political leaders or party but in general. This is why I get so upset and passionate because you, my people, deserve so much better, but you refuse to see that and to expect that.

  12. So sad. The truth is this is a child that’s sick. We as a people don’t care till it reaches our door step. She won’t get better at the prison. It’s a pity it had to come to a murder for us to see that our black children suffer and we neglect them because we believe that it’s weed or it’s cocaine and we blame the drugs. We need good physiological help onthis land. Can’t you see our your men on the streets. Unless they don’t kill they don’t get recognize. We use them , say they looking attention but how many really deals with mental issues. I too had problems growing up with my mentality. And I didn’t realize till my son was diagnosed with ADHD FROM HOS SCHOOL. He was giving trouble and I would beat him until I found out that I was bi polar and my son inherited a little trace of.it. we need to look after our children better. My heart goes out to all. But leandra get help for your child. Don’t let her rot in prison, it’s only going to get worst there. Where’s Mary John in those times. That child is sick. She need help not 27 yes because she kill a white woman. Nash shot Cooper got 8yrs. Wow. SMH.

  13. She only get lashed so hard due to it being a supreme person murdered.
If this was a local dead or a Caribbean person this would never even go so far, easy time and back out on the streets in a short time to murder again.

This whole justice system and police force is a big bag of air.
The health system is to the dogs as well.
This island falling apart, me soon move out of this place where people forsake their own for white supremacy. Seems some of the heads are still in a mental slavery and bondage.
Always the whites have power over us and seems that will never change. I’m not racial but this is facts to the highest level.
I saw for myself during covid, we were to wear masks and wear them correctly, at the hospital on the hill where they kill people at times, I was their for a checkup and everyone wearing masks except this white man and his son who coughing his life away and nobody said anything to them but a nurse telling me to fix my mask in a very rude way. This is the messed up island we live in today and its getting worse daily.
God have his mercies on this place.
