SJDC Issues New Directive: Street Vending Banned in Key Areas of St. John’s
The St. John’s Development Corporation (SJDC) has issued a notice to all vendors announcing that, effective April 17, 2025, all vending operations must relocate to designated areas within the vegetable section of the Public Market Complex. The complex includes both northern and southern sections and offers ninety (90) available spots for vendors.
According to the notice signed by City Manager Carolyn Thomas-Parker, vending will no longer be allowed in the vicinity of the V.C. Bird Bust and Heroes Park, the Fisheries Complex, and Lower St. John’s City. Sidewalk vending is also strictly prohibited.
Vendors found operating outside of the authorized areas risk removal by the authorities. The SJDC emphasized the importance of cooperation in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe environment for all.
For further details, vendors are encouraged to contact SJDC offices at 481-7501 or 481-7524.

At least they found some where to put them
Not sure how I feel about this change as a Vendor
I dont think that area is big enough for all those vendors.
Thank you ANR for the Notice
Well feel good and embrace the change. For years vending in that area has been an eyesore to public/visitors ,hazard to the pedestrians and disrespect to the Father of the nation. I wish you well in your new location but it’s long overdue for some decency to be brought down to the public market. Now the loiterers and drunken men should be tackled next. Let’s give the VC bird bust the respect it deserves and build a nation of productivity with efficiency
Hopefully this is permanent and is fully enforced since some areas of the city look worse than ever with vendors tables, pallets, shacks, trash, etc. all over the place. It looks like the action the Ryan Group carried out recently to clear the vendors by their properties at Redcliffe Quay has finally motivated the government to do something similar in the city. This should have been done years ago. One dedicated location for all the vendors is the right idea so that the sidewalks and roads are unobstructed in an increasingly busy and congested St. John’s.
If anyone saw the various videos on utube of st. John’s, the place looks like a big ghetto, so I hope this stands.
But once the comrades and non-nationals go complain to gassy, in a matter of time it will return to the same state.
WONDERFUL NEWS 👏
Good start. Hope they enforce it now. Don’t forget about the illegal parking by staff by Sandals and Royalton Chic as well as by Blue Waters Hotel. The double lane road is a single lane road thanks to the hotel staff parking illegally on the road on both sides by Sandals and Royalton Chic and especially on one side on the already narrow road by Blue Waters Hotel. People can’t pass with oncoming traffic and it’s only a matter of time before a big accident happens just like the one in Hodges Bay recently. There are double lines marking a no parking zone yet the police don’t do shit to enforce that. That’s Antigua for you. Do as you like.
The same shit happening by Woods Mall and now Epicurean. All them vendors need to be given notice too. Our roads have become a personal place of business for whoever. This country is special a rass.
Is it possible that the old meat market and fish market can be co verted into an area where said street vendors can use. Hence SJDC can charge a nominal fee for use
Long, long overdue, the area should be policed to stop drivers from buying out of their vehicles and holding up the traffic. I will always credit the administration when they do the right thing, but when they don’t I’ll be on them like white on rice
I don’t know Mrs Thomas but I just want to say you’re doing an amazing job as an arm of town and country planning, I finally get to see someone actually doing work from this standpoint, keep going and stand your ground for the love of our country eventually those who oppose change for better will soon see the bigger picture, a more sanitary environment and organization will yield more for all. Thank you for doing your job.
they acting like the damn roads are their private property have market street and around town looking so terrible!1
Most of those vendors are foreigners, as soon as they start a rebellion the so-called Top Dawg will buckle to their demands, secretly he is afraid of them, he only has venom for born and bred Antiguans as if we rob him of something, he doesn’t even care about the Lickspittle Brigade he uses them as a means to an end and they are too brainless to recognize it
What’s about Perry Bay road just before Perry Bay supermarket? Another eye sore and traffic obstruction. The bottom of Corn Alley too…
Clean up St John’s
