BREAKING: Tattoo Artist ‘Mongoose’ Released from Prison After Firearm Conviction

8

Antiguan tattoo artist Oszie Kelvin Russell, known publicly as “Mongoose,” is back home after being discharged from His Majesty’s Prison, where he was serving time for illegal firearm possession.

Russell was released on Monday, July 27, closing a chapter that began with his arrest last year and generated considerable discussion across Antigua and Barbuda.

The 40-year-old admitted before the court in April 2025 that he unlawfully possessed a Glock 80 9mm handgun that was not licensed, along with 10 rounds of ammunition and a firearm suppressor.

The charges stemmed from a police operation at his Lightfoot residence on April 22, 2025. Officers carrying out a search warrant reported that Russell allegedly tried to get rid of the weapon by tossing it through a bedroom window. The firearm was subsequently recovered by police.

  4. So why is he being released newsworthy? If he served the time that he was given, then hopefully he learned his lesson and moved on.

  5. He had plead guilty in April 2025 and was originally sentenced to three years and six months but then the Court of Appeal reduced his sentence (citing errors in how the penalties were calculated!) to one year, ten months and twenty days.

So basically he served one year and three months…🤣 The court system is a joke.

  6. Did he serve his time or he won the appeal base on technicalities ?
This reporting is saying nothing. There are many unanswered questions. What did the appeal court saw or found out, that the Judge in Antigua didn’t see. Please educate us.

  7. Should have stayed his time there with no leniency. This legal system isn’t setting an example for persons with illegal weapons. Increase the fine to 10 years minimum too.
