Police are investigating a break-in at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands Campus, where intruders stole two microwaves and other items from four rooms between the evening of 11 July and the early hours of 13 July.

Security officer Ricardo Christopher reported the theft to the Grays Farm Police Station.

According to police, access was gained by removing four louvre glass panes from each room.

The premises were ransacked, and the suspects are believed to have entered and exited through the same openings. Despite police interviews in the area, no leads have emerged and the stolen items remain missing.

The incident has raised concerns about on-campus security. Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that may assist in the investigation.

  1. Regrettably sometimes it takes things like this happening for business to see the importance and relevance of improving their security acumen. Criminals are scouting businesses and are looking for the easiest targets. I am very surprised that the UWI Five Islands Campus do not have security cameras en masse as part of the overall safety and security of both staff and students.

  2. Even the university cannot stand safe, I don’t even know if to say they are attacking government establishments one by one

  3. Antigua is going under and we don’t know who’s going to help. The university is under attack and even stealing 2 microwaves? It’s that desperate?

  4. Having a university should also include a special police unit stationed right there on campus, along with cameras all over. Is this still Five island primary?

  5. @Carva. Exactly. Most if not all university campuses have their own security or campus police. This aspect should have been part of the broader and comprehensive planning for the UWI Five Islands campus.
