Boys Training School Renamed, Set to Reopen Next Week
The Boys Training School has been officially renamed the Bowers Rehabilitation Center in honor of its longest-serving principal, and the facility is scheduled to reopen next week after a period of closure.
During the Post-Cabinet press briefing, Chief of Staff Lionel Hurst confirmed the renaming, stating that the decision was made to recognize the contributions of the late Mr. Bowers, who played a significant role in shaping the institution.
“Mr. Bowers was the longest-serving principal of the Boys Training School, and therefore it was named after him,” Hurst explained. He also noted that Mark Bowers, the son of the late principal, was consulted and agreed to the renaming.
The facility, which provides structured rehabilitation programs for young boys, has undergone upgrades and preparations for its reopening. Authorities hope that the relaunch under its new name will reinforce its mission of rehabilitation and youth development.
Further details on the programs and operational changes at the Bowers Rehabilitation Center are expected to be provided in the coming days.

Doesn’t quite roll off the tongue
Changing the name doesn’t constitute improvement in service. During the long term closure did they train the staff to handle the population they will be working with to rehabilitate, I’m sure they didn’t do any training smh. How can you have success with an unstable foundation of service providers. I know there are some good employees at this facility and many mean well but also many do not need to be at this facility due to lack of training for the population they are serving. When I worked there some of the staff requested transfer to adequate work stations where they can serve a purpose in their field but they were denied or ignored. There are many women in this facility who were intimidated by the young guys and just allowed them to do as they pleased. Have they established what programs will be implemented once they open, i’m sure they didn’t and they will just make things up as they go. Instead of being proactive to truly rehabilitate the young boys and those who have been exposed to mentally disturbing conditions at 1735, will the rehabilitation center be prepared to address the needs of these young guys. A fresh paint and new name does not mean success. I hope they fixed the kitchen because the kitchen was filthy and they couldn’t cook in the kitchen due to the conditions and the oven not working. I hope they closed off the access to the bottom of the kitchen where the boys used to go and smoke herb close to the propane tank. I hope they installed a water tank so when water is not running the boys will have alternatives to washing their skin instead of giving them a bucket to fetch water and wash their skin out of a bucket. I also hope they make the cell off limits because it could be a death trap for those a boy if fire occurred. As well that cell was exposed to the elements and centipede and rats while the boys laid in there. I never approved of having any person in that cell and once took a young guy out against the orders of the previous lazy principal or director. I know this facility will not be equipped for these young boys because they are males and no one will really care about them as if they were young girls they would emphasize on needs and prepare much better for their needs.
@ Anonymous..Why because of Bowers?

No one has time to read your sermon lol 😆 😂
A most deserving honour for the late Denis Bowers. Mr Bowers envisioned the training school as a transformation institution that would equip young boys to become meaningfull contributors to society, from developing its own matching band through music education. a scout troupe , trade skills, crop farming and ensuring that the boys received the same education offered to other children acroos the islsnd .He was indeed a trailblazer !
