GIS; CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN WITHIN 30 DAYS ON BOOBY ALLEY HOUSING PROJECT
Prime Minister Hon. Gaston Browne says the contract has been awarded for construction of housing units under the Booby Alley Housing Renewal Programme. He expects the contractors to be on the ground within a month’s time to commence construction.
The Prime Minister, who is also Member of Parliament for St John’s City West, in which Booby Alley falls, made the announcement on Pointe FM’s Browne and Browne Show on Saturday.
He says discussions are being held with the Antigua Public Utilities Authority and Public Works Department to complete the preparatory work.
The project will see the construction of dwellings to replace the decrepit structures which had existed for decades.
Residents have been temporarily relocated, and will return to live in the newly-constructed homes.

Although this project was controversial, it would be good to have projects throughout the island to help improve the housing of communities who can’t help themselves to move forward as much. Having a proper home, however modest, can help people become more productive and break out of bad cycles from the past. Also, with the increase in severity of hurricanes we should be systematically replacing all board houses with concrete ones. Some communities may need assistance with that.
With the frequency of tremors in our area, we can’t make the determination that all-concrete structures is the safest. Real research is required here.
@Rovi. I agree that research would be good. One place I lived in had bricks/cement forthe outside walls, with wooden interior walls. The living area just had a high wooden roof. The bedroom and bathroom area had a low concrete ceiling. I thought that was a clever design because during an earthquake you can run to the living room area, but during an intense hurricane, you can hide in the bedroom area.
Well …….FINALLY getting rid of the eye sores and getting modern housing projects is BOTH great for the community….financially & beautification of the whole eye sore called POINT.
Jus hope they find some pride in themselves and community and look at the project positively

Ok booby alley housing resurface just before Gaston go talk with the gang, he is using that gang crisis for his benifit of votes as he did with the red shirt gang he openly associates with back then to edge out Lester bird. So house promises will be made to these gangs that will translate to votes.
Just Curious. WHO GOT THE CONTRACT? Was not said.
And will the houses be able to match the “ambience’ of the fancy restaurant? And is this just talk?
I will believe it when I see it.
