Booby Alley Housing Project on Track for March-April 2026 Completion, Says PM Browne

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has confirmed that the Booby Alley housing project remains on track for completion by March or April 2026. During a recent site visit, Browne expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction, affirming that the project is within budget and progressing according to schedule.

The development will deliver 150 two-bedroom homes to former residents of the area, with Browne highlighting their climate-resilient design. “These homes will be climate-resilient, built with pile structures to withstand environmental challenges. Our people will benefit from a significant upgrade in their living conditions, and the quality of these homes matches the best found anywhere in the world,” Browne stated.

He described the project as a testament to his administration’s commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that even the most vulnerable citizens are provided with high-quality housing. “The view from these homes overlooking St. John’s Harbour is better than the view from my own home. This demonstrates our government’s dedication to creating opportunities for all, including the poor and vulnerable.”

The Prime Minister also emphasized that the Booby Alley project is one of the most meaningful initiatives he has overseen. “This is one of the best projects I’ve presided over. It is truly transformational, targeting those in greatest need, and I am proud to be serving as Prime Minister at such an exciting time in our nation’s development.”

Browne extended gratitude to the People’s Republic of China for their support in financing the Booby Alley housing project. He underscored the importance of China’s philosophy of shared prosperity, which has allowed Antigua and Barbuda to benefit from critical infrastructural development.

“I had the opportunity to meet with President Xi Jinping, who elaborated on China’s vision of shared prosperity. It is evident that Antigua and Barbuda are direct beneficiaries of this philosophy, and we extend our deepest appreciation to China for their continued support,” he said.

Browne, who has a background in construction, reaffirmed his commitment to advancing the housing sector, stating that no other contractor on the island has built as many homes as he has during his tenure. “My vision is to empower people with better homes—climate-resilient homes that will last for generations. This is part of our broader housing revolution over the last decade.”

The Booby Alley project forms part of the government’s wider effort to modernize urban areas, with Browne pointing to recent investments in St. John’s, including the expansion of the cargo port and cruise terminal. “We have spent nearly half a billion dollars upgrading critical infrastructure. St. John’s West is the place to be—promise made, promise kept.”

As the project moves towards completion, Browne reaffirmed that the government remains committed to delivering high-quality, climate-resilient housing to its citizens, ensuring that national development is both inclusive and sustainable.
