Boating Community Urged to Exercise Caution as Dead Sea Turtles Found in Territorial Waters

2

The Department of Planning and Natural Resources (DPNR) strongly advises the boating community to exercise caution at sea and be mindful of sea turtles following a distressing discovery.

Since June 10, several sea turtles have been found dead in territorial waters, showing fracture wounds consistent with boat strikes.

With the ongoing sea turtle nesting season, boaters are urged to slow down and remain vigilant for surfacing turtles, which are at higher risk during this time.

To report sick, injured, or dead sea turtles, the Sea Turtle Assistance & Rescue (STAR) Network can be reached at 340-690-0474.

Conservation efforts remain crucial to protect these marine creatures.

  1. An utterly disgusting picture – I’m lost for words!

Let’s see if we hear the same kind of tumultuous reaction to the harm of our sea turtles in Antigua as we did with the distressing and somewhat disturbing pictures of the under nourised dogs in recent times.

I very much doubt it, because double-speak and out and out hypocrisy reigns when it comes to certain types of people who causes even more harm. [*cough cough 😉]

  2. Yes we absolutely must look out for the sea turtles and avoid harming them. It’s their environment too.
