Granville Sabrada Gordon aka “Birdman” was sentenced to 8 years for fatally shooting Tyrell Brann in 2008.
The incident occurred on Gordan’s Farm in Five Islands where 18-year-old Brann and his friends had gone in search of Cannabis.
The teenager was killed as Gordon fired shots while chasing the young men off his property.
The 34-year-old defendant pleaded guilty to the lesser count of manslaughter after his murder trial had commenced in the High Court last week.
The court heard, one of the young men was also armed and had fired his weapon at the scene of the incident.
In fashioning the sentence, the judge considered mitigating factors including Gordon’s guilty plea, and that he had been defending his property from intruders who had gone there to steal.

So is he out on time served? And why does a case where someone pleads guilty take 10 years for a judgement? Something not adding up.
If they went to steal and he had shots fired and so defended himself by shooting his fire arm what’s to jail him about? Was it an unlicensed firearm? Should intruders feel they can come on to your property do damage and with intent and the proprietor just stand aside and be robbed and do nothing if they then shoot at the owners? What is this justice system saying? It’s a messed up law and needs review well that’s if I’m thinking straight or I’m missing something here. Help for this world of ours. Jesus must come soon.
A young man is dead….. wonder if this would be your comment if it was your child. What happen to warning shots and scare them off?? Did they hv the gun drawn when they went into the yard??? smh think before you speak.
somebody came onto your property to steal and inflict damage upon u, and ur saying to fire warning shots? if they got the upper hand and end up shooting you..what good were the warning shots? your the one that needs to think before u talk. no body is saying that they are happy the young man died, but had they killed the owner of the property then what? at the end of the day they had no right on the property.
if tyrell and the others had stayed at their homes he’d be alive today. those boys were little thieves who dubbed themselves some kind of “bad man” in grays farm and believe u me if they had gotten the upper hand on birdman it would have been the other way around.
who can’t hear will feel tyrell along with the others sad to say we’re little criminals who terrorised grays farm. NOBODY SENT THEM ONTO THE MAN’S PROPERTY.
Have you ever had a conversation with ”those boys” they were definitely misguided but they were not killers so don’t put that out there. He’s DEAD. Our youth continue to go down a wrong road because we sit back and wash our mouths on them, then rejoice at their eventual downfall. PEACE TO THE DEAD.
This story was not written correctly. The editor failed to add the mm used in the incident was unlicensed, and the boy shot was running away from birdman, so no self defence. Come on guys, you can do better than this
Birdman also hid the body and fled the island for almost a decade so I believe that was taken into consideration.
what warning shots? scare off what? you must live somewhere gated from the world today. First thing, whenever someone intrudes it means they were not invited. it means you do not know their motives (especially if they are wearing masks). he was on his own property…had it gone differently we would of been saying “oh, look how dem kill off the man in he own place for he own things”. some of us have kids and speaking the way you do is exactly why the bad ones continue to be menaces to society. if your child is out there wrecking havoc and causing distress he will suffer the consequences. that’s why you punish children (however you feel necessary as a parent) for doing bad. stop condoning bs. we are all someone’s child and we will be punished for wrongdoings regardless.
