Billionaire from Maryland Claims Ownership of Controversial 269-ft Superyacht Alfa Nero and Sues Antigua Government for Millions

31

Luxury Launches -Motoryacht Alfa Nero and American billionaire Eric Schmidt are starting to appear as star-crossed lovers; they are not meant to be!

The vessel, abandoned in February 2022, saw a ray of hope when the Government of Antigua decided to auction it.

After seizing the luxury vessel on the 11th of April, 2023, she was dubbed a hazard that had to be auctioned.

Antigua lobbied the US government to lift sanctions on the 269-foot-long ship to help auction it.

Once this hurdle was passed, the superyacht Alfa Nero was auctioned on the 16th of June 2023 to ex-Google CEO Eric Schmidt on live TV for nearly $68 million.

Officials from Antigua and lawyers for the crew signing documents of the yacht’s seizure onboard the Alfa Nero.

The auction was followed by injunctions by Russian oligarch Andrew Guryev’s daughter, Yulia, who claimed to be the rightful owner of the vessel.

Complicating the quagmire even further is American billionaire Warren Halle, who has now sued the government of Antigua.
The businessman stated that on the 14th of March 2023, before the seizure of the vessel, he met with Prime Minister Gaston Brown for the purchase of the Oceanco beauty.

Gaston Browne, the prime minister of Antigua.

Prime Minister Brown asked the entrepreneur to top a previous offer for the pleasure craft, following which he could approve the matter in the parliament.

It would’ve done the businessman good to learn that the $120 million Alfa Nero was still under OFAC sanctions and considered blocked property.

Alfa Nero docked at Falmouth harbor.

Unaware claimant Warren Halle instructed a transfer of $10 million to the trust account of Moore & Co. in Coral Gables, Florida, intending to purchase the vessel.

So excited was the American to buy this vessel that he hired lawyers and professional captains for his soon-to-be-asset.

He transferred the $10 million to the trust account and decided to charter the 269-footer for $800,000 a week as soon as he possessed the pleasure craft. All this took place even before Andrew Guryev’s yacht was seized.

Finally, on the 11th of April, 2023, the ship was captured, followed by the live auction.

Mr. Halle was informed two months later, on the 23rd of May 2023, that the Prime Minister did not have the authority to sell him the superyacht, and it could only be bought in the auction.

With a bid of $66 million, Warren Halle came second to Eric Schmidt, who won the battle with a cool $67.6 million.

Schmidt, per a clause, was allotted a week to complete the purchase of the vessel, or the second highest bidder would be given the ship.

Evidently, that hasn’t happened. On the 29th of June 2023, Halle took a significant legal step and filed an injunction preventing the sale of the motor vessel, ‘Alfa Nero,’ to defaulter Eric Schmidt.

The claim of $5,683,000 was made for breach of contract from the defendants. In the past few months, Halle suffered a loss of nearly $210,000, pursuing and preparing for the Alfa Nero Yacht.

We can’t wait to witness Halle emerging as the final owner of the superyacht Alfa Nero, beating billionaire Eric Smchnt. Or will Yulia Guryeva-Motlokhov have the last laugh?

Andrew Guryev’s daughter is challenging the sale of Alfa Nero by the Antiguan government.

Yulia Guryeva-Motlokhov claimed ownership of the luxury vessel Alfa Nero-
At the beginning of July 2023, the daughter of the Russian oligarch Andrew Guryev, Yulia Guryeva-Motlokhov, filed an injunction as the owner of the $120 million luxury vessel, which was moored in Falmouth Harbor since February 2022.

The high court rejected her appeal, but the daughter of the fertilizer tycoon was determined to renege on the yacht’s sale. Attorney Dr. David Dorsett confirmed that the request would “almost certainly” be filed again.

“Judge Rene Williams ruled against our application. The client has been made aware, and her instructions are clear. We will proceed with an appeal,” Dr Dorsett said.

“We think the refusal should be challenged, and we will be doing so with some speed.”

  1. This alone should be enough for Gaston Browne to step down. He was warned not to sell something that doesn’t belong to him.

All that was warranted was to charge the owners of the Alpha Nero for was mooring and other upkeeping charges – nothing more and nothing less!

The cabinet (of yes men) went along with whatever the Prime Minister wanted to do, and didn’t for one moment tell him “what could possibly go wrong?”

STUBBORNNESS WILL EVENTUALLY FINISH OFF THIS FOOL OF A PRIME MINISTER, BUT SADLY – AS IT NOW SEEMS – TO THE FINANCIAL – DETRIMENT OF THE COUNTRY THAT I LOVE.

Praying for an immediate change of leadership … 🙏🏽

    • Poor you, you are holding on to every straw you can get to see if you can get Gaston Browne out of the office.
Sorry my friend, it will not be that easy. You will have to do it by the ballot box in 2028. You still cannot come to terms with your loss on January 18, 2023. Five more years in government is Gaston’s punishment. And you will have to suffer through all those years. I feel so sorry for you. Five agonizing years.

      • You are just another “Yes man”, who cannot think for himself; and like the doomed Titanic the ABLP will sink as well. It’s just when!

And by the way Sidey, you may see it as “Five agonising years” (which just goes to show that you know absolutely nothing about how I roll), however, let me tell you a secret. I look on the five years as a REAL blessing, because it gives not only me, but the country to investigate the wrongdoings of Gaston Browne and the ABLP.

I’M SURPRISED YOU COULDN’T SEE THAT FIVE YEARS IS MORE THAN ENOUGH TIME FOR THE PM TO SLIP-UP!

Agonising! Far from it Sidey – tick tock, tick tock 🕒 😁

  2. Oh what a tangled web we weave!!! Ultimately, the resolution of this dispute will require a comprehensive understanding of property rights, contractual agreements, and the legal obligations of all parties involved. It is crucial for the legal system to navigate through this quagmire with intellectual rigor, ensuring that justice is served and the rights of all parties are respected. They have their work cut out for them.

  3. Well said @ Brixtonian. This idiot PM thinks he is above being spoken to. They say there’s nothing more dangerous than an ambitious dunce and Antigua has one. Narcissistic, greedy and downright incompetent.
So sad that taxpayers will bear the brunt of this colossal error.

    • Like we are not already bearing the brunt of the incompetent UPP. Especially the Wadadli Power Plant they bought for over US$50million and the thing didn’t work for more than three months. Then they prevented the Hadeed, APC, to offload their own generator, which cost us over US$70 million as per the court judgement, then we have smaller amounts like the case we lost against Sir Gerald Watt for illegally removing him from ABEC, we have the monies spend to buy back the unfinished Car Park. Then we have the interest clock that Lovell let raised up to US$21 million in the Half Moon Bay property forced acquisition. A beach property that we had to buy back for one million USD from an owner that they gave title to, without him ever paying a dime for. I mean we have so many of these things where tax payers are now paying for the mistakes from the UPP. I will not even mention the monies we lost in CLICO and ABDB from MBS and Social Security. You guys really have a heart to bring up these things. The government lost so many cases in court that we now have to pay for them.

      • Again, how conveniently that you ALWAYS forgot to mention about the 40 wasteful years of Birdism and Browneism.

In comparison, the UPP only had 13 years in the last 53 years by comparison … are you still a damn fool an idiot, or both?

I think you should decide Sidey!

        • Those were the best years in Antigua, especially the 80’s. That is why most people come here to better their life. Thanks to Birdism and Browneism or whatever you want to call it.

          • So answer me this @ Aquaman8. How come Antigua’s road and water infrastructures are still not completed in the year 2023, and we have no manufacturing base whatsoever after 40 years of Birdism and Browneism?

Seems like your happy about this underdevelopment.

BTW, can you please elaborate to the rest of the independent thinkers living here in Tigua, about how good the 80s were, without just throwing out mindless soundbites? Pretty please!

      • Sidelines your lips are clamped to Gaston’s dick like a vice grip. At least give the wife or tenman a chance to perform their tasks as well.

      • All that you’ve said is not even tantamount to the Guiana Islands Farm (Dato Tan Kay Hok) thievery. US $1 Mil. for a land certificate of approximately 3.5k acres, including offshore Islands and those same lands found their way in a new deal with Yida. We have been promised US $2Bil. for 2 decades but we ended up paying for their infrastructure instead. Lester Bird got his share of the payback, publicly, during an Independence Celebration and Gaston’s might be closer than we anticipate.

      • WHAT-ABOUT-ISM? Poor you, You really went there. I knew you are a nincompoop. It is nonsense to sell a property that is not yours what the hell you thought was going to happen? Pick your brain off the floor bob

  4. So, hold up! Wait a minute! Could you possibly #rewind, and read that again! Did it say, the #Top_Dawg sold the Yacht, before it was legally seized, through the shenanigans, of #Fatzo_n_Son.

This #Mystery in true Cloak_n_Dagger style and fashion is giving great publicity, and advertisements for the Nation. This shit seems like it wants to surpass Asot & Lester IHI, RA Stanford, Leroy King, Vere “Gun_Runner,” Humphrey’s guilty verdict, Odebretch plus Antigua Airways.

The Nation deserves better accountability on this Alfa Nero misery!

  5. All of you bloggers ALL YOU HAVE OVERLOOKED THE MOST IMPORTANT INFORMATION ISNT THE SALE & MONIES SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE TO THE GOVERNMENT OF ANTIGUA OR TO THE TREASURY OF ANTIGUA who the hell is MORE & CO ……. Have anyone in ANTIGUA heard about this company is it owned by GASTON JR Stationed in Coral Gabled ……

WHY WAS THE SALE AND MONIES ( check) to this MORE & COMPANY….

I’m told by reliable sources GASTON LOVE ASKING HIS CABINET AND ANY GOVERNMENT DEPARTMENT….YOU ALL KNOW WHO I AM ….. everyone he has asked to sign or forged documents and they question him his answer is. DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM

  6. In his bid to create generational wealth for his kids grandkids great great grandchildren THIS IS WHAT HE DOES sell what’s NEVER him I LIVE FOR THE DAY HE & Maria are handcuffed for money laundering bribes etc.

    The most corrupted ANTIGUAN PM

Who is the REAL owner of MORE & COMPANY ??????? WHY IS THE COMPANY IN FLORIDA AND NOT IN ANTIGUA

HAS ANYONE EVER HEARD OF ALL THE COMPANIES GASTON BILLING THE GOVERNMENT FOR …..

  7. If this is true @ How much, this needs to be looked into by the relevant, INDEPENDENT authorities.

I’M SHOCKED IF TRUE – I HOPE IT ISN’T SO, BECAUSE THE IMPLICATIONS ARE DIRE!

This sounds more like a spiders web of deceit, corruption and financial impropriety. I’ve never heard of More & Co, and the possible links to Alpha Nero and Gaston Jr.

Hopefully, our own Commissioner of Police Atlee Rodney and legal fraternity will look to see if there’s any CONFLICT OF INTEREST going on here.

As the saying goes: “Money is the root of all evil”.

    • The two ah dem to “sometimeish” @ Black Man. I’ve yet to hear them comment on this, or the two Nigerian airline fiasco’s and the suffering of fellow Antiguans due to broken manifesto promises.

What an awful ABLP duo, I might nickname dem Fatman 🦹🏾‍♂️ & Robbing 🦸🏾‍♂️ – it suits them!

  8. All this suggests that how we do things here is rotten to the core . On one hand we privately promised to sell the luxury yacht to a man and on the other hand we conducted a kind of public auction as a show of transparency. It’s no wonder we are still in all this confusion where the yacht is concerned. Too much bobol!

  9. I like how you guys like to jump to any and every article that in your opinion implicates the prime minister of wrongdoing. But I don’t. I wait for facts to come. So, you guys like always have your fun. Maybe this is your straw once again to hold on. Don’t drown in the meantime.

    • If the ABLP government were transparent and open in their financial dealings Sidey, then concerned citizens wouldn’t be “jumping around” on news articles as you MISTAKINGLY put it.

Critical thinkers in the country have been asking for Sidey is transparency on:

NAMCO; CIP; Alpha Nero; the Nigerian airline fiasco (part 1); the Air Peace airline fiasco (part 2); unaccountable outsourcing to third parties, that could effect homeland security; why the long long delay in the implementation of our island wide water system and road infrastructures; why there are still big problems in paying pensions and wages on time; an update on the completion of the disused carpark in town; and the broken promises of the house building programmes as well @ From The Sideline.

As you are such a great defender of the grand deflector Gaston Browne, maybe you can shed some light on all the above that’s not being made transparent by this government.

NO! I DIDN’T THINK THAT YOU COULD EITHER …

    8. On 1st March 2023 it was reported in the media that the Government intended to seize and conduct a forced sale of the vessel as it is a danger to navigation.

    9. Between 1st and 31st March 2023 Mr. Justin Simon KC and Mr. Shane Giles Chief Executive Officer of Opus Private Limited attempted on many occasions to contact the Honourable Attorney General to inform him of the Applicant’s ownership of the vessel ahead of the announced sale. No response was received.

    10. The Port Authority (Amendment) Act “the Act” was enacted by Parliament and was published in the Gazette on 20th March 2023. The Act inserted a new section 38A into the Ports Authority Act.

  11. PEOPLE, PEOPLE, PEOPLE, IS THIS INDIVIDUAL SAYING HE ALSO OWNS THE ALFA NERO?? SO IT HAS A RUSSIAN AND AN AMERICAN OWNER?? WHY DONT WE STOP PLAYING PARTY POLITICS. HOW MANY F YS REMEMBER THE HALF MOON BAY SAGA??

  12. This is just outrageous. Let’s see how Gaston spin this one. All this rush to make money, turns out to be just a “rushing for another duping.” All we produce and in, and export from, this country is litigation. Here a case, there a case everywhere a court case. Time for Labour to go!

  13. @Commentator, malphesence in public office sounds good to me. Looks like he tried to get a big cut under the table and got caught. Lol. The noose tightens.

  14. ONE THOUGHT OR TWO
    Echoes from the colonial past!
aka ‘BIG PEOPLE’ …..’DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM’?……our colonial caricature!

In the 50s, a tall stevedore from the Point area, after a few drinks, was on stage in St. John’s and with a booming, baritone voice said to whomever: “DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM”?………”BIG PEOPLE……..(Alexander) Moody-Stuart”! (head of the Antigua Sugar Estates Syndicate).
We must understand why we take on such persona! Is this the result of our colonial training, indoctrination?………’Black Skin White Mask’?

Let us interact with humility, grace, good intentions! Be nice to each other!

Save our Humanity, Save our Youths, Save our Environment, Save our Soil!!!

    Respect
