Billboard Thefts Raise Safety Concerns Across Antigua and Barbuda

11

A series of thefts involving billboard infrastructure is raising safety concerns in Antigua and Barbuda, following the latest report along the Queen Elizabeth Highway.

At least two structural braces were taken from an Antigua.news billboard situated along the heavily travelled corridor. Similar damage has since been identified at other billboard sites, pointing to repeated and intentional interference.

The missing braces are essential to keeping the large advertising structures stable, particularly during periods of strong winds and heavy rainfall. Their removal increases the risk of billboards becoming unstable, posing potential danger to road users, pedestrians and nearby property.

Owners say the incidents are creating unexpected expenses and forcing urgent inspections, repairs or temporary dismantling of affected billboards to avoid accidents. There is speculation the stolen metal is being repurposed for construction use.

The matter is expected to be brought to the attention of authorities, and the public is being asked to report any suspicious activity near billboard installations.

  1. I stand with you Antigua News Room and every person that has had their billboards broken apart. I hope some kinda investigation can come to an open soon

  2. Time enough we Dominicans, Haitians and all the same bring back obeah to deal with these thieves…. Let’s just see if they will steal again after that….

  3. How low will Antiguans go? And by Antiguans I mean even the foreigners living in the country. Cause it’s overbearing….. anything yall take? One day one day.

  4. The government should get solar powered streetlight with camera combination out of china to replace all existing streetlights system and help the police and government solve crimes.

  5. I have had occasions recently to be driving on the streets late at nights and experienced firsthand the kinds of “tiefing”. That is going on. One time I saw a guy moving in the dark with a door on his back and another time a guy with a 100lb gas cylinder. Not to mention the several videos of persons breaking and stealing. Come on authorities appeal to the parents and spouses of these guys as well as whoever is buying the loot. Most of all let’s stop burying our heads in the sand; WE HAVE a serious problem on our hands.
