The Ministry of Health is warning the public to be more careful when buying pork and poultry products as contaminated ones may have re-entered the market.
Officials of the ministry met with Cabinet on Thursday to explain how several cartons of pork and poultry, which were condemned by inspectors and set to be buried, were stolen.
Cabinet notes indicated that thieves may have removed some of the products before they could been destroyed.
“Because of the danger of salmonella poisoning that could result when humans consume condemned pork and poultry products, the Police have been conducting an investigation with the aim of identifying those thieves who may have spirited away the spoiled foods,” Cabinet notes read.
There were no details on how the process of condemning bad meat products could have been breached.
Several officials from the Central Board of Health, the Ministry of Health, and the Chief Medical Officer were present at the Cabinet meeting.
