Beautification Efforts Target Waste Management and Overgrowth Across Antigua
The Ministry of Works is spearheading a series of beautification projects across Antigua to address overgrown vegetation, clogged gutters, and neglected public spaces.
Housing Minister Maria Browne highlighted the initiative during her 2025 Budget Debate presentation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining clean and attractive communities.
“Our beautification teams work tirelessly to keep our public spaces clean and welcoming,” Minister Browne said.
“From clearing gutters to managing overgrown vegetation along main roads, these efforts not only improve aesthetics but also promote safety and public health.”
The teams have been actively engaged in trimming shrubs along major thoroughfares, flushing drains, and removing waste in heavily trafficked areas.
These actions are complemented by expanded nursery operations, which will supply plants for landscaping projects aimed at enhancing public spaces.
Looking ahead, the Ministry plans to establish a new nursery in Barbuda by 2025 to further support beautification efforts on the sister island.
“This expansion reflects our commitment to creating greener, more vibrant communities across Antigua and Barbuda,” Browne noted.
In addition to regular maintenance, the teams have supported various government projects by assisting with site cleanups and waste removal.
Minister Browne expressed gratitude to the hardworking staff for their dedication and encouraged public cooperation in maintaining these improvements.
“These projects are about more than just cleaning up; they are about fostering pride in our communities and creating spaces that everyone can enjoy,” she concluded.
The beautification initiative aligns with the government’s broader goals of sustainability and community development, ensuring Antigua remains an attractive destination for both residents and visitors.
