Barbudans to vote in Antigua

Chairman of the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) Nathaniel “Paddy” James has said that a decision has been taken to allow Barbuadans to cast their ballots in Antigua.

Elections are constitutionally due in 2019 but speculation is rife that the prime minister could announce a date for the election as soon as this weekend.

James says if the elections are called early as predicted, constituents of Barbuda will be voting on the mainland.

In a January 26 letter to Prime Minister Gaston Browne, James says the decision was taken “based on the prevailing circumstances resulting from the hurricane which ravaged the island of Barbuda.”

While some Barbuda evacuees have returned to the sister isle, many of them remain in shelters here.

James says the logistics and other related factors should be worked out to meet the needs of Barbuda electors.

  1. What’s this nonsense am I hearing? No wonder the recovery was so damn slow. Time for Barbudans to stand up. This is BS!

  2. what about the people who got the antigua passport by CIP, CAN THEY CAST BALLOTS??WILL THEY BE
    TREATED AS SECOND-CLASS CITIZENS???WHO
    CAN ANSWER?

    • That is the Billion dollar question that I have been wondering for the past 3 years.

Can CIPs vote? Which I believe that they should not but the cronies here will say differ.

Allowing CIPs to vote will undermine our electorial process not only that also will also allow for a CIPs to challenge any seat in parliament. Watch careful to my words. Once a CIP or anybody for that fact CAN CAST VOTE they can contest or be up for any election. We have not reach that line yet so no one can say NAH against it but if we do allow a CIP or even our CARICOM bro (which have happened) you cannot stop them from “challenging the right” to go to the polls in an election.
