Barbuda Dock Relocation Under Review Amid Luxury Development Push
The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda has invited the Barbuda Council to consult on the possible relocation of the island’s south-side dock, citing the proximity of luxury developments and the need for joint decision-making.
Chief of Staff Lionel Max Hurst confirmed the issue is one of the reasons for the proposed meeting between the Cabinet and the newly constituted Barbuda Council.
“As you know, the dock is on the south side. And behind the dock, you have an operation for sand mining. And one of the expensive properties that will be built will not be so far away,” he said.
He added: “That expensive property has proposed that we move the dock. And some plans are afoot, but we want the Barbuda Council to be a part of the decision-making, the consultations.”
Mr Hurst stressed that the meeting would not be limited to the dock issue alone. “It won’t be the only reason, but that will be a significant reason,” he said.
The meeting also marks the first opportunity for engagement with newly elected Council ChairmanJohn Mussington. Mr Hurst expressed optimism about future cooperation, stating, “We hope that he will exercise the reasonableness that the teachers in Antigua normally exercise.”
Describing Mr Mussington as “the principal of the school” in Barbuda, Mr Hurst said he expects the chairman will bring a spirit of collaboration to the development process.

Antigua is not a real place, so if a white man want deep water harbor or the airport move to build his house, that’s how crazy Gaston is to accept money for such treason? That’s the equivalent of the Barbuda river dock which is their harbor that Gaston say must move for white people to build their luxury home. Crazy treason.
So our country runs by developers suggestions and by our national development plans.
That kind of approach is detriment to our people in the long term
