Barbuda Council Takes Legal Action Over Land Adjudication and Blocked Access to Palmetto Point

18

The Barbuda Council has initiated legal proceedings against the government over the ongoing land adjudication process on the island. Barbuda MP Trevor Walker, leading a Council delegation, met with the Cabinet to discuss several pressing issues, including the creation of a joint consultative committee for both islands and concerns about crime and infrastructure.

A key topic was the land adjudication process, overseen by Deputy Governor General Sir Clare Roberts, which aims to clarify land ownership and boundaries. Originally set for May 2024, the process is vital for establishing accurate land records on Barbuda.

MP Walker also announced the Council’s intent to take legal action against PLH developers, accusing them of blocking access to Palmetto Point. The traditional access road, used by residents for years, has been closed by PLH, a move Walker described as unacceptable.

In an interview with NewsCo, Walker expressed the Council’s strong opposition to PLH’s actions. Despite commitments from the Cabinet, including Prime Minister Gaston Browne, to address the issue, Walker warned that the Council would pursue legal action if a resolution was not reached, emphasizing their determination to protect Barbudans’ access rights.

  1. hire the Dummy-Knee-Cant lawyer to take it all the way to the Privy Council nuh

  2. Barbuda Council direckly rich:

Member of Parliament for Barbuda Trevor Walker said, “We want to get an expert in to do a report for us as to the personnel and the job descriptions so that they can produce a report to the Barbuda council.”

WHERE IS THE REPORT? JOAN UNDERWOOD where are you?

time to AUDIT the Barbuda Council

  3. @ Westside, and to paraphrase that great all-time Western ‘Tombstone’. I can see the Honourable Trevor Walker saying to Gaston Browne:

    “I’ll be your Huckleberry …” 😁

  4. Palestinians have been dying for decades to keep their homeland and our government is willingly handing over ours to interlopers for personal gains. We are seeing early signs of apartheid on both islands and the supporters of the government are egging them on; one even commented that, ‘you can’t stop what’s coming ‘. Slavery has surely left a negative effect on most of us.

  5. @Rovi
Most of the writers here I suspect we born after independence or were infants.
Don’t blame it on slavery; blame it on miseducation.
Limited vocabulary Trevor Walker the architect of overstaffing and non production can’t have it both ways.
He knows darn well the Council staff is quadrupled what is needed.
He is also fully aware most of the staff has second jobs when they should be working at the Council.
Should he let go these people on Council Payroll who does nothing he will be voted out of office.
It’s a conundrum he helped to create and he is now trapped.

  6. At the end….the sheeps from both sides, will eating the same grass the slaughter has for them!!! . God bless the sheep’s,God bless who will be slaughter at soon is possible.

  7. Head line claims” “Barbuda Council Takes Legal Action Over Land Adjudication and Blocked Access to Palmetto Point”, article details state they may do so if certain actions aren’t taken. Interestingly its clear these days that the counsel is more willing to work with government than ever before(well up to 2014). Airport there will open Oct 03. Good to see though some wish to go backwards, it seems the Barbuda counsel is now willing to face reality and work on moving our nation forward

  8. Down Halcyon Cove the entire beach is gone. The Royalton Chic now blocked off the entire northern portion. DCA is only good to push down local poor people structures. DCA could not have passed this construction of these bungalow that blocked off the use of our beach. Also can anyone legally prevent you from climbing on the properties in our waters. Note we have access inside the high water mark. The water is public property.

  9. Can someone please answer this question. Does DCA has the right to allow the construction of dwelling houses over the water. Did they? They don’t police these constructions. In fact none of our agencies, DCA , Labour, Immigration, social security or medical benefits. There people are soon going to say they own the beach and the waters sorrowing the Bungalows. Our children will have a fight on their hands to regain Antigua. Apartheid!

  10. @Brixtonian, you’re right but while I admire Walker and Mussington’s moxie, they can only battle for so long against those who think they can turn Barbuda into a new St. Barts.

@Rovi, I wouldn’t call myself a supporter of the government but I am a realist and have watched how things have progressed in Barbuda over the last few years. The ultra wealthy have been looking for a new, private destination in the Caribbean and for better or worse, Barbuda with its tiny population and sugar or pink sand beaches checks all the boxes for those individuals and investors with very deep pockets. I saw some of the Ocean Club developments with my own eyes this year and it reminded me of the Mill Reef Club but on steroids. I’m not saying that it’s a good thing but that’s the reality. It seems inevitable that future developments will follow and even with the unique land situation, I don’t see how they will be stopped since we all know that money talks.

  11. Yet another exercise in futility! The monies you are now receiving due largely, if not solely, from PLH remittances ought not to be wasted on your expensive lawyer pals. Trevor you and you band of paddy wagon followers are as amusing as you are redundant. Enough already!

  12. Trevor I admonish you not to become a washedup politican like Harold Lovell. Join forces with the government and do something good for Barbuda.

  13. why should these colonialist be allowed to come back and block access to palmetto point and the beaches,, same shit mill reef and jumby bay doing. Time to burn down these modern day plantations again and run these negropean traitors out of town.

  14. fk that i am burning down those properties together with those bulldozers
king court must be turning in his grave, stupid black traitors

Obviously the headline is not consistent with the article.
It’s the same copy and paste journalism known in these part of the world. But let’s get beyond that.

The Barbuda I know is a community of inclusion rather than a fortress of exclusion in spite of the misinformation put out by those who want to exploit Barbuda on both sides
Codrington has always been welcome mat rather than a gated barrier; which what BOC Palmetto development envisions.

It’s a now place in which Codrington and its environs are an investment portfolio.
That Barbuda is less a social philosophy than a set of benevolent instincts of mutual decency with which we have lived for hundreds of years
Trevor Walker and Devon Warner as enemies of the Barbuda people preying on the peoples understanding of their self-worth, and m are in bed with Gaston. Trust me in that!

This Barbuda Council trip to Antigua and the meeting was a farce being perpetuated on the Barbuda people. That’s why the article is full of inconsistencies
Unfortunately most Barbudans are not aware of the what is really going on with these two; so this duo are getting away with it so far.

Gaston releases a small amount of monies due to Barbuda, Trevor makes himself out as a champion of the people. It all a game.

Where is the reproach if they are prepared to block the road to Palmetto.

Neither the Government or the Barbuda Council have put their respective adverse actions on hold during the “creation of a joint consultative committee for both islands”

The Council is still moving forward with its lawsuits against the Government; and the Government has not announced any moratorium on The Land Adjudication process; evidently it is still moving forward

The Land Adjudication process was only one of many grips that Barbuda have. None of which are being addressed.
Gaston does his walk-thru and make his grand announcement about development for Codrington from time to time; none of which has come about.
It’s all a game on both sides. The only thing to argue about is; based on the question: “What the hell is really going on?”
