Yearwood debating the 2018 budget

Aviation Minister Robin Yearwood has said that the long-delayed Barbuda Airways is still on its way.

The Minister gave the latest update in parliament last night but stopped short of saying when exactly the airline would commence operations.

“Right now, the aircraft is being prepared for inspection by Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority and as soon as those are done, Barbuda Air will be going to Barbuda twice a day.”

The minister moved on before indicating when the inspection is expected to be completed.

Earlier he blamed Hurricane Irma for the delay.

Cabinet approved the creation of Barbuda Airways in January 2015 but apart from signing a joint venture agreement with Caribbean Helicopters in September last year, there has been little noticeable advancement.

Following the signing officials promised that Barbuda Air would begin service within the next two weeks, offering twice-daily services between Antigua and Barbuda.

The proposed fare is US$ 50 for a round-trip ticket.

  1. I was wondering about Barbuda Airways. There was much talk about getting everything approved during the Barbuda Council elections in March, and then for Caribana. I guess poor Irma was the perfect storm and will be blamed for everything. It would good though, if they could get Barbuda Airways up and running, to assist Barbudans in their travel back and forth.

  2. No more talk Mr. Politician put the Barbuda Airways in Motion..
