Travellers at V.C. Bird International Airport faced long delays on Monday after a key baggage carousel malfunctioned, creating a backlog of passengers waiting to drop off checked luggage.

Passengers said the main departure-area carousel was out of service, forcing ground staff to manually carry bags. The breakdown resulted in extended wait times and long lines at check-in.

The Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority said technicians were on site working to repair the faulty equipment.

  1. Installation followed by frequent inspection and maintenance. You can’t just install or build something without inspecting and servicing it.

  2. My oh my! Record visitors without the infrastructure to ease their journey. The sad thing is, it is not new as when I was there in July it broke down also. A sad reflection of those who run the airport.

  3. This was broken back in July too … is it still broken, or broken again? But be sure to upgrade the Private jet lounge

  4. Information reaching me says the belts have not worked in years. Passengers after checking in is forced to carry their bags to another part of the terminal. Then there are two or three guys that physically lift all those bags to the storage carts.

  5. I pray that they will get it fixed quickly. The VERY SAME THING happened at the Delta counter in Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson ( the busiest airport in the world) on 20th December. It caused delays. Baggage handlers were overwhelmed. I was there – awaiting flights to Antigua! 🤷🏽‍♀️
Machines break down when worked and worked! Unfortunately it happens.🫢

Thank you to the teams working hard and tirelessly to get things back on track!

  6. IT NEVER EVER TOOK ME AS LONG AS IN ANTIGUA TO GET IN. THE WHOLE SYSTEM HAS TO CHANGE. Island people, used to inefficiency, might not notice, but tourists are!
