The Antigua Public Utilities Authority Telecommunications Business Unit says customers residing and operating in the western portion of Gunthropes will not have service until damaged cables are repaired.
The continued disruption will affect landline and internet service until repairs have been completed to damaged cables supplying that area.
It was reported that Saturday, February 24th, 2018, a backhoe came in contact with underground cables which resulted in major damage causing a disruption in both landline and inet services.
“While the damage is severe, we anticipate that services will be restored in the coming days. Our technicians continue to work feverishly to rebuild this infrastructure in the shortest time possible,” the company said in a statement.
“APUA would also like to advise contractors to consult with the Authority before clearing lands or digging to mitigate the occurrence of such incidents,” the statement added.
