The Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) proudly achieved the Baby-Friendly® designation from the Pan American Health Organization, a recognition for its exceptional care for breastfeeding mothers and infants.
Administered by the World Health Organization and UNICEF, the program equips hospitals to support mothers with knowledge and skills for successful breastfeeding.
SLBMC is now one of only three hospitals in the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) to earn this designation.
With over 500 live births from January to August, the center’s commitment to maternal and infant care shines through, as over 90% of new mothers initiate breastfeeding during their hospitalization, fostering healthy beginnings for both mother and child.
