Attorney Warren Cassell has won his appeal against a conviction for concealing EC$855,380.54 in illicit financial gains. The court found a “miscarriage of justice,” overturning the three-and-a-half-year prison sentence he had received.
Cassell, a Montserrat-born lawyer based in Antigua, had been convicted in 2013 for transferring the funds from an investor’s account to a corporate account linked to land sales at Providence Estate between 2007 and 2008.
The original trial, led by Justice Stanley John, saw Cassell defend himself. He had faced a maximum sentence of 14 years under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Did he actually serve time? If so, how is he compensated?
Way to go my friend
Interesting case! Hopefully, the ruling was based on solid legal grounds.
I wonder how this affects the public’s trust in the legal process.
Wishing him success, but will there be accountability for those involved in the original case?
This outcome raises questions—hope the public gets more clarity on the case and the appeal process.
I’m glad for Warren Cassell, but what measures are being taken to prevent future injustices?
I hope this doesn’t overshadow the need for stronger anti-corruption laws.
I’m extremely happy to hear this news. He was subjected to serve time at His Majesty’s Prison for a while. He’s a great and formidable attorney and was railroaded for his activism in many issues. As a matter of fact, he’s one of the, if not the onl attorney who who would come to the media to educate the people.
Congrats, Mr. Warren Cassell, Esq.
What did the appeals Court heard in this matter. That the original Court Judge did not hear.
Absolutely, they would’ve had to look at the original case and state the basis for their decision.
Congratulations on your victory
