Attorney Wendel Alexander says he is moving urgently to the High Court to seek bail for a young mother charged in a firearm matter, citing that her infant child is dependent on her breast milk.
Alexander says that the woman’s boyfriend has admitted ownership of the firearm and ammunition, but the Director of Public Prosecutions has indicated it wants to review the file and consult further with investigators.
The matter involves 21-year-old Terry Williams and 20-year-old Shanyea Crump, both of Nut Grove, who were jointly charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and remanded to His Majesty’s Prison after appearing before Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel. Firearm offences are not bailable at the Magistrate’s Court.
Police said a Ruger 9mm pistol and seven rounds of ammunition were seized during the execution of a search warrant at a property in All Saints on Monday.
Alexander said bail documents are being prepared, with Crump expected to swear an affidavit as part of the urgent High Court application.
