The Antigua and Barbuda Trades and Labour Union (AT&LU) will keep its current executive team in place after no new nominations were submitted ahead of the September 12 deadline, the union announced at its 86th Annual Delegates’ Conference.

The union said a resolution was read and seconded confirming that those last lawfully elected would continue until the next scheduled elections. The motion was carried by a clear show of support from delegates.

The business session of the conference also included the surprise announcement that General Secretary Alrick Daniel would not seek re-election.

In his presidential address, AT&LU President Bernard de Nully emphasised the importance of unity and reflected on the union’s 86 years of existence under the theme “The Unity of Labour Is the Salvation of Our Country.” He also floated the idea of establishing an AT&LU Credit Union to help members set aside savings and strengthen their financial security.

The union described this year’s conference as a “resounding success” that met the expectations of its leadership and members.
