The Antigua and Barbuda Trades and Labour Union (AT&LU) will keep its current executive team in place after no new nominations were submitted ahead of the September 12 deadline, the union announced at its 86th Annual Delegates’ Conference.

The union said a resolution was read and seconded confirming that those last lawfully elected would continue until the next scheduled elections.

The motion was carried by a clear show of support from delegates.

The business session of the conference also included the surprise announcement that General Secretary Alrick Daniel would not seek re-election.

In his presidential address, AT&LU President Bernard de Nully emphasised the importance of unity and reflected on the union’s 86 years of existence under the theme “The Unity of Labour Is the Salvation of Our Country.”

He also floated the idea of establishing an AT&LU Credit Union to help members set aside savings and strengthen their financial security.

The union described this year’s conference as a “resounding success” that met the expectations of its leadership and members.

  1. Not a good sign. No one was interested or encouraged? Everyone must be satisfied (or terrified) with the leadership

  2. Is that what really happened?… It is crystal clear to me that this reporter was not there… What a pappyshow circus…. The AT&LU is dead…

  3. Ammmm are you saying they are doing such an exceptional job that there were no elections? Hmmmmmm interesting cause at times I don’t think they are that effective sometimes

  4. I wonder who gave this report to this news portal.

I guess they did not report what happened to the ‘current’ General Secretary as he spoke or attempted to speak on the microphone yesterday (Monday 29th September 2025)?

I guess they did not report about the inconsistency (nomination from the floor) between when Hugh Joseph was being replaced by the ‘current’ General Secretary and what transpired yesterday?

Speaking of Hugh Joseph, I guess it has not been reported to you as yet that the union will be compensating him a ‘nice tidy sum’ coming out of a ‘final hearing at the High Court’ yesterday (Monday 29th September 2025).

Don’t worry; we might hear more soon as school children say ‘persons from the union’ have been invited to Cabinet tomorrow.

    Stay tune (lol).
