Antigua Trades and Labour Union (ATLU) President Bernard De Nully says APUA workers will continue their protest until long-standing complaints about workplace conditions, pensions and wages are addressed.
De Nully said workers in ATLU bargaining units have repeatedly raised health and safety concerns at facilities including the T&D plant, the Arrow plant, South Mall and Poseidon Gardens, but the issues remain unresolved.
“We gave notice since the first of February 2025 that health and safety issues… must be addressed. They haven’t been addressed,” he said.
He pointed to deteriorating workplace conditions, including leaks and pest problems, and also accused the utility of failing to honour pension obligations.
“They’re not being honored, they’re not being paid,” De Nully said, noting that a worker recently died without receiving a pension.
The union is also seeking a 10% wage increase and an end to what it describes as the victimization of workers.
“We are asking for 10 percent… It is reasonable. We are not demanding too much,” he said, adding: “We will not back down.”
Negotiations with management have been ongoing for about a year, and the union says the protest will continue until its demands are met.

When are you people going to realize Gaston and his Administration do not give a crap about workers, this dude is as selfish as it gets.
He really cares only about himself and family, but since we have been accepting crap for years he has no reason to behave any different.
Look at how St. Philip’s North have been treated for 50 years under Labour and since Gaston became Prime Minister things have remained the same.
De Nully can say anything he wants but he will eventually buckle to the dictates of Gaston. It is very important that on the 16th March St. Philip’s has to send a very clear message we are not taking Gaston’s crap anymore
Give UPP a chance for things to change. How much longer are we gonna continue to take abuse? I am not a UPP supporter but I highlu recommend a change. ALP supporters have been crying and we have some that are in a crisis but still theu turn a blind eye and still accept the bull shit that they do.
This has nothing to do with Gaston . He iss the one who allowed apua staff to strike . Please dont talk about what you do not know about . That strike could not have been if Gaston did not approve it
The APUA workers can take some free smoke and a gate pass to the next one nation fete in front of the prick’s brand used international sound stage.
The handwriting is on the wall like graffiti as the Labour Party is finally telling Gaston in public, we’re sick and tired of your bullshit, it’s time to pack you’re Browne bundle and head to America, Russia and the UAE to get whollop by Yulia for taking her yacht without her permission.
The amount of millions been spent on the Alfa Nero legal fees would be more than enough to compensate many of these struggling workers and rectify several of the issues with the poor conditions of several work spaces for public employees.
