ASA Banton Responds: ‘When the service good, you tip the waiter‘
Dominican Bouyon artiste ASA Banton has responded to Prime Minister Gaston Browne’s remarks about Antiguans tipping him $100 while criticizing an increase in license fees.
Taking to social media, Asa Banton acknowledged the headline attention he received, stating, “And just like that, I made headline news in Antigua.” He defended the generosity of Antiguans, emphasizing that people tip based on appreciation.
“When the service good, you tip the waiter,” Banton quipped, adding, “Antiguans are not poor; they just tip who they like and pay for what they want.”
The self-proclaimed “Bouyon Boss” also sent a message to the Prime Minister: “So Mr. PM, if you’re doing a good job, you will get your $100 tip for your roads soon.”

ASA Banton got a point. If the performance good, give him the tip! Simple.
So what’s the problem? If people feel good about the performance, they should tip however much they want.
When you get good service, you show appreciation. ASA giving vibes, people tipping him makes sense.
I see nothing wrong with tipping. They paid for a great performance, not a crime to show appreciation.
When you go to a restaurant and get excellent service, you tip the waiter. Same with the music!
Why the man can’t get a little appreciation? If you perform well, you deserve a tip!
People should focus on bigger issues than how much ASA Banton gets tipped. He earned it! His sure a great artist
It’s about giving respect where it’s due. ASA brought the energy, and the crowd rewarded him for it.
PM need to relax. People work hard for their money and deserve to spend it how they please.
Asa thank you for a great show. Mr. Pm you need to apologize to the ppl of Antigua for calling them “Poor”. people work hard for their money and have the right to enjoy and do as they please. All the ppl asking you for is to ease up on all the TAXES you placing on them. If WE want to fete and TIP great artist like ASA we will do so with our earnings. Mr PM, in all fairness, that was another derogatory statement on the people of Antigua and Barbuda who voted to put you in the office you sit. Where is the out cry of him calling people POOR. Then you when other people talk n say what they want, Y’all want to condemn them. Give me an aspirin. Mr PM, you continue to disrespect your office. No one else but You!!!
WAYYYYY papa. Asa I hope the world boss doh bann you from performing in Antigua. As you say the people love you and you love them back. PM remember the 100 increase is for CARS not for people like myself who drive a SUV
Lol haha. And so what if people want to tip their favourite artist that means they are able to tip the government? Government do enough foolishness with our money.
You must remember that Gaston Brown is his own worst enemy. I wonder how that man sleep at night..he like a ..bam see.. mining every body’s business while his getting away
This has to be a joke, the PM in controversy with an artist.
Antiguans are functionally illiterate. They can decipher letters and words but cannot reason and understand. The PM never said not to tip. Neither did he say they are poor. But he said if you can afford to tip $100, you can afford to pay the increase of $100 to contribute to better roads. All of this points to my anger everytime I hear people talking about poor people. We are all poor unless we have Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos type money. What we have is a country spoilt by politicians who have been trained to expect to pay for nothing. As a result our people lack proper priorities. Hair, nails, partying, clothes, weed, alcohol and fancy cars are the priorities while their children and elderly parents live in want and despair. But who cares. They think they look good and are having a ball. Then eventually as sicknesses come on as a result of their bad life styles they expect the goverment to pay their medical bills.
